Oh my what a selective memory you have limecity. Thatcher's (Coutalds Plastic) was the correct name, and again there were two plants involved. Washington Courthouse was doing subpar work with many customer complaints so the wisdom of those who be started shipping plastic tubes to Muscatine to be repackaged and then shipped to customers. Didn't take the customer long to catch on to that trick. Prior to contract talks property was purchased by Coutalds in Wheeling, Ill for a new plant. Company didn't tell anyone of their plans but they were found out about and they claimed not to know any thing about the property. Coutalds was closing the Muscatine plant plain and simple as it was outdated and in need of MAJOR building upgrades. They bought what the wanted, the plastic tube manufacturing knowledge, sent it back home to England(?) and thought if they could string Muscatine along for a fraction of their current costs they would and let it die a slow painful death. Equipment was being moved from the Muscatine plant long before the contract proposal was rejected by secret ballot of the Union members. The Union didn't Strike and the company didn't lock anyone out. Yes they did close the plant but even that wasn't immediate. You appear to be a former Thatcher (?) or someone that thinks they know what the score was. As a Union (?) member you had the right to vote and a choice to make with that vote. As a SCAB you couldn't vote. You should have been paying dues and then be heard. I was a Union member for many years and was DAMN proud of it. Unions is what made America what it is. Thank the Unions for each and every benefit you receive, no matter how little it appears. Someone somewhere most likely walked a picket line to get for all. Hang in there GPC union workers. We are behind you.
