I' been using it for a couple of years now. The only problem with it is the amount of scammers on there, you have to be careful. It pays to firmly believe the "if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is" theory though. Just went to southwestern Missouri a month or so ago to buy a car there from craigslist. Have sold several items thru it also.
You are right, proceed with caution. Look it over good because you are buying from a stranger.
I have bought a few things there and came out ok, but I also have saw a few scams.
People in our family have used it sucessfully also Kenn - but if you stay away from the REALLY good deals on vehicles and you usually can spot those that show the vehicle with palm trees in the background - and the monitors at craigslist catch these and remove them pretty rapidly. Also there is some kind of scam about pet adoptions. Our family have got some very nice merchandise for good prices. Iowa City generally has more listings than the Quad Cities. This is a good way to recycle - get rid of things you no longer want/need and get some that you do!
