why is there railroad  like gates at the entrance of the I-74 bridge but only on the side that leads to the other state. why is there cameras all over the I-74 bridge! don't believe me go look . does anybody Know or have they heard why the gates are there. I have no Ideal what they would be for. I seen them at 23rd and 7th ave. also both entrances you can see from state street. seems a little strange to me. I am going to do some check(research) and see if I can find out.

Would you beleive for heavy snow storms like they do out West??

No really they are for traffic control to restrict oncoming traffic in case of a major accident or such. It allows emergency vehicles access to the bridge and less traffic to control and deal with.  So they say.

I have never seen them in action and don't really want to either.

Part two in regards to cameras yes there are several cameras and there is a web site to view them at. There are several public veiwing web cams in the QC.

The 74 bridge, river front/skywalk Davenport, Davenport PD area, lock and dam QC. Don't have any of the links here right now tho.

Another traffic flow feature. Check traffic before going out and trying to cross the bridge.

mahalo just went they way today and it seemed strange so I thought I would see if anyone knew what was going on! hey is the 74 bridge set for replacement soon, thought I had heard that also, was not sure though. thought I had heard that the twin bridges were the longest spanning bridges of their kind (not sure which I heard) in the world or US. if true sad to see them go.if not that would be kool! mahalo
