Amazing how nothing has changed in 36 years.

This is the time for truth, not falsehood. In a Democratic nation, no one likes to say that his inspiration came from secret arrangements by closed doors, but in the sense that is how my candidacy began. I am here as your candidate tonight in large part because during four administrations of both parties, a terrible war has been chartered behind closed doors.



I want those doors opened and I want that war closed. And I make these pledges above all others: the doors of government will be opened, and that war will be closed.



Truth is a habit of integrity, not a strategy of politics, and if we nurture the habit of truth in this campaign, we will continue to be truthful once we are in the White House.



Let us say to Americans, as Woodrow Wilson said in his first campaign of 1912, "Let me inside the government and I will tell you what is going on there."



Wilson believed, and I believe, that the destiny of America is always safer in the hands of the people then in the conference rooms of any elite.



So let us give our - let us give your country the chance to elect a Government that will seek and speak the truth, for this is the time for the truth in the life of this country.



And this is also a time, not for death, but for life. Many Americans thought they were voting to bring our sons home from war in peace, and since then 20,000 of our sons have come home in coffins.



I have no secret plan for peace. I have a public plan. And as one whose heart has ached for the past ten years over the agony of war, I will halt a senseless actions on Inaugural Day.

And then let us resolve that never again will we send the precious young blood of this country to die trying to prop up a corrupt military dictatorship abroad.



This is also the time to turn away from excessive preoccupation overseas to the rebuilding of our own nation. America must be restored to a proper role in the world. But we can do that only through the recovery of confidence in ourselves.

Reality is what refuses to go away when I stop believing in it.

Complex problems have simple, easy to understand, wrong answers.

That's right, I said it.

Makes one ask why you were proud to post here that you voted for liberals? Afterall, they were in charge of Congress, except for bief moments, from 1955 through 1994, then again now, for the last couple years.

That covers McGovern's time....and it's funny...everything he spoke of here as a negative continued under the liberal control of Congress.

Funny that Nixon went on to win re-election over McGovern in 72 and most of the last troops left Viet Nam in 73 except for security and embassy duties. The last troops came home in 75 when Saigon fell.

Your note about "nothing has changed" makes me wonder how you were convinced to "vote for change" in the last election that liberals won Congress over.

So, chosen...if we accept any part of McGovern's philosophy as having merit; how do we really change it all?

Bigbrother - "How do we really change it all"?  We vote! And we vote for change. This should cross every political party line people draw. Truth knows no Republican or Democrat. Truth stands alone absent from the lips of our so called politictions and absent from the ears of the voter. It stands on a rightious platue that sees no right or wrong, just facts......... But that's truth for ya.

Well, Chosen...you said after the 06 elections you voted...for change. But you did not get it. So what now?

Your initial post on this speaks through this year, since 72, inclusively. What have you voted for if not change? What have you gotten for that vote if YOU are the one here complaining in agreement with McGovern and stating that nothing has changed?
