I completely agree with bigbrother. [...] The new format sucks!

If you have any specific suggestions, feel free to go into detail.  Seriously!

Now, we're not going back to the old format.  It was terrible.  I know it was "the devil you knew" and you'd gotten used to it, but it didn't work well for serious discussion in a lot of our towns and neighborhoods.  The new layout has already meant more users and more posts nationwide despite the growing pains, so we want to make the new version work better rather than simply throw it away.

When people say it sucks, we know we need to make some improvements... but it doesn't tell us where we need to focus our attention.  For me the speed issue has been the biggest problem, and as of yesterday afternoon I was finally able to give us a 3-4x speed improvement - hopefully it's noticable to you guys.  More speedup on the way.

Also in the works are better ways to rate individual users and posts, so our Respect-o-Meter will hopefully make a little more sense, a search tool, and maybe some layout tweaks to make it easier to navigate around our site.

But again, specific suggestions, or even specific complaints, will help us know where we need to focus our attention.  Want to see more topics or more posts per page?  Different colors?  More cowbell?  Let us know!

I sorta like the new board, except for the 'report' button.Smile
Robert -

One of my biggest complaints has to do with the way replies are posted. When I reply to someone, as I did to bigbrother's post, it's posted several places downthread. Unless the poster quotes the post they are replying to, it's difficult to follow the conversation between two persons within the thread.

Also, I'm a Mac user and the new format doesn't appear to be compatible with Safari. I can read posts, but I can't post anything myself without going through a different browser. It's just inconvenient.

Finally, and this is just a matter of opinion, I feel like I'm on some teeny-bopper chat site with all the smileys and emoticons. The quote bubbles for each individual post look childish.

Certainly, you can do what you like with the site. I'm glad you're working on the speed issue although it's still pretty slow compared to other sites. Hopefully future "speedups" will come soon.

Just my opinion, of course.

Hope this helps

Robert,

If you could email me @ pricelesspics@machlink.com, I'd appreciate it.  I want to be able to take some digital pictures, download them to the dcomputer, and then share them here.  I'm a quasi-computer nerd, and have to do things by repetition.  They just lit our Mississippi River bridge w/10,000 LED lights and, they'll be putting on a nightly show.  I'd LOVE to share that w/ the neighbors.  Tom Milder.
