You are once again 100% correct in your post. Did you ask what guarantee or assurance the Feds give that they will/can use the space? I do know the answer to that question. There is none other than a handshake and a wink. I do not want my tax dollars going to an effort that may or may not pan out. Yes I understand how much money they do already spend here. Please consider how many jails have been and are being built in the state. I would suggest that at some point there wil be an excess and I dont want us to be the ones holding the bag. One of the other things that needs to be considered is, as I stated earlier, what new modern methods are being used elsewhere that can/will reduce the need/cost of incarcerating folks? We are not even considering them.
We are somehow convinced that building is good without even exploring options. That is my objection and I think if folks will think about it and not follow blindlly, they will see some need to do so.It is easy to build a place to house folks and throw them away.It is hard to solve the problems associated with it. It is better for society that we attempt to solve the problems and not throw good money after bad. Yes there are bad people that need to be locked up. No argument there. We need to look at who we are locking up.
