Is it really necessary for schools to leave the school crossing stop signs out so long? I'm all in favor of having them up when kids are walking or being dropped off at school, but an hour after school has started is a little excessive I think.  The stop signs I'm referring to specifically are in front of Mulberry School.  Granted, there's no rush hour traffic at 9:30 am, but it does create an inconvenience.  Especially since there are two different stop signs in front of that school.

Stopping at a stop sign for 5 seconds is "inconvient""? A couple of suggestions for that 5 seconds---take a deep breath or two, hang up the cell phone, enjoy the sounds of kids playing, dogs barking, birds chirping, the sun shine, the rain, the snow---whatever God brings your way. It might be a great spot to just relax even if it is for 5 seconds. It seems to me that if you find a stop sign an issue, you might need to slow down a bit. JMHO

Those are excellent suggestions.  I was thinking more about the wear and tear on my vehicle than I was about losing 5-10 seconds.  It is well documented that stop and go traffic is worse on your vehicle than steady traffic.  I travel on that section of Mulberry Mon - Fri.  I have been at my current job for 8 yrs.  There is an average of 40 weeks in a  school year.  40 weeks X 5 days X 8 yrs = 1600.  Double that number because there are two stop signs and you get 3200 stops made.  If the stop signs weren't there, I could go from the intersection of Houser and Mulberry all the way to the intersection of Parham and Mulberry before I had to make a stop.  As a note, Grant school also has the temporary stop sign on Mulberry.  They are able to have theirs down before I get to them at 9:30.  I don't know how much wear frequent stops make on a vehicle, but I don't think it's a disputed fact that it does wear on your engine and brakes more than steady driving.

If you had wings you could fly. If you could travel 100mph to work you would get there really fast. If you rode a bike you would save gas. If you had a gazillion dollars you would be very rich. If I had your money and you had a feather stuck up your butt, we would both be tickled. If I had been born the year before I was, I would be a year older. If I could do the things a dog can do, I would never leave home. If, if,if,if,if,if,if.....

If my math is correct you would save about 4.4444444 hours per year at 5 seconds per stop. Removing the stop signs would in fact be a true benifit to all traveling that route. I suggest we remove all stop signs and lights in the interest of saving time. While we are at it, lets remove the speed limits. Think of the time we could save then.

I suspect the wear and tear from the additional stops make on your vehicle are negligible as are the benigits of my suggstions

Have a great day
