Yesterday as Jefferson school was dimissing, the students were lined up to board the buses, the problem being so many inconsiderate "parents" were parked in the clearly marked no parking bus lane that one bus had to stop in the street to pickup the students. Creating a huge traffic jam and safety hazard for students boarding the buses,at that time a MPD officer came by and immediately started handing out parking citations. I applaud officer Art Anderson and hope he's there again today. With that being said the city could help with some of the problem if they could come by with the right equipment, a loader and dumptruck maybe and haul away all the snow/ice that has been pushed to the curb in that whole area between 9th and 11th streets. just a thought.

I'm glad to hear this!  I pick my kids up at Grant and there are parents parking clearly where they are not supposed to and it makes it hard to get around and to see the kids coming across the crosswalks.    I think that people should be able to figure out what it means when there are signs stating where you should NOT park...   I always wonder what kind of a msg. those parents are sending to their kids...  I know you're not supposed to park here, but I'm going to do it anyway...

My child goes to Jefferson and rides the bus after school only. He didn't start that until this year, but over the last few years that he has been going there I have noticed a problem not only with the parking on Mulberry but with droping my child off at school. There is never a place to just pull over to let him out of the car, I end up having to stop at the stop sign and let him out there. Jefferson has such a huge front yard that is nice and all, but I think that they should cut a section like West Middle School has that pulls you off the street for loading and unloading of the kids. The buses park closer to the building and the parents park on the other side. It makes it much easier to pick up and drop off your children in sort of an organized way.

Gee, and just think how UN-CONGESTED it would be if everybody didn't "need" to drop their kids off at school. Bicycles, shoes and buses got kids to school just fine in my day. Almost every school is a cluster f##k everyday in this town, in the morning and afternoon. Maybe Art needs to pick a school everyday of the week, and just rotate until people get their heads out of their hineys. Ain't no wonder kids are getting more and more obese all the time.
