Interesting excerpts from a guest editorial found at QC Times online:
...Bill Clinton is trying to back away from his unflattering remarks about Obama?’s campaign by trying to convince black radio hosts and others that it all depends on the definition of ?“fairy tale.?” And Hillary is under fire from black leaders who took offense to her implying that, while Martin Luther King Jr. was a great orator, it nevertheless took a Democratic president ?— Lyndon B. Johnson ?— to get the Civil Rights Act passed. It sounded hollow...
...But it?’s when they?’re on the defensive that the Clintons really get offensive...
..During an appearance on NBC?’s ?“Meet the Press,?” Hillary defended herself and her husband but then went on the attack. She accused the Obama campaign of ?“deliberately distorting?” their comments to make the Clintons look intolerant.
Wow. This is a neat trick. You throw mud at someone, then you blame him for the fact that your hands are dirty.
Obama says he is ?“baffled?” by how this got turned around on him. He points out that it was the Clintons who misspoke and that he hasn?’t commented on what they said. He also said that he is ?“concerned about the tenor the campaign has taken?” and that he doesn?’t want it to become a ?“tit for tat.?“
Too late. Much of the blame lies with the Clintons, who seem bent on the politics of personal diminishment. Think about it. Bill tried to diminish the importance of the Obama campaign, while Hillary tried to diminish the importance of Martin Luther King Jr.
And why would they do that? It?’s to make themselves feel more important, more relevant and more indispensable to the advancement of African-Americans, both now and at various points in U.S. history.
It is the ultimate power trip, the sort that illustrates what happens when old-school liberalism meets baby-boomer narcissism. The Clintons have built their careers on the notion that their commitment to public service is all about you. But sooner or later, you figure out, it?’s all about them...
