500,000 people a year die from cancer, 500,000 die from cardiovascular disease, and millions more suffer quality of life issues while living. there are many things that could be made illegal that would reduce how people are exposed to or acquire these conditions.

so far that hasn't happened because of some understanding that people should be free to make their own decisions - and the huge number of people, places, and things that could be criminalized.

add in the situations, including alcohol, that others have mentioned, and i think the numbers and details you would present about illegal drugs barely get on the radar screen.

still, difficult personal problems that arise out of drug abuse are very real to the individuals involved. solutions are hard to find and apply. there is an argument that illegality itself contributes more to the problem than a solution.

First off, Some of them drug dealers are clean cut and in the upper crust of society. You have been watching too many movies. Also drugs are not ''sold on the corner''. That's like putting a sign on that says: ''hey cops! bust me!'' Again, too many movies. Also you do not have to misuse legal drugs to get high. Take a valium and you will be high. High is high. Take one Amytriptalene and you will be high. Both ''legal'' drugs when perscribed. Alcohol was once illegal, now legal...so I can leagally get high? Pot is legal some states....cross the border and you are abusing drugs? All in all, our government determines what is legal and what is not. And we all know about the government....
Also, I do not base my opinions solely on CNN. I have seen too many people ruin their lives while being on Paxil, xxanex and such. Mind altering drugs, baby. Back in the old days doctors use to use mercury on certain patients. Just because a doctor prescribes it, does make it right or good.
