Muscatine Humane Society, Inc.

Nancy Kent Animal Shelter

Nancy Kent first saw the need for a comprehensive animal care facility in the early 1970's. By 1972, the first Muscatine Humane Society was in business. In July of 1996, the ever growing Humane Society moved into it's current, state of the art, facility at 920 South Houser St. The beautiful building and grounds were a donation to the future from Nancy Kent's heart. In 2006, our shelter continues to be a leader in Iowa with humane treatment practicies and screened adoptions to provide lasting, loving homes for as many animals as possible. The staff continues to work toward the national "no kill" goal through education and early, mandatory spay/neuter programs. The future looks bright for our local animals.

CACM-Canine Activity Center of Muscatine

As anyone who has driven past the shelter knows, a new building was added in 2005. The new building is the Canine Activity Center of Muscatine, simply known as CACM. Inside this 12,000 sq. ft. building is a dog paradise that includes a full 8,000 sq. ft. agility ring. There are classes for dogs and their people nearly every night of the week. Special events like Agility Fun Matches and Rally Obedience Meets will bring more dog fanciers into our area on the weekend. A full service kitchen, Mike's Place, is available to provide great eating at our events. There are big plans for CACM that should keep it's programs expanding in the years to come.
