Town of Millis

to the mayoral council: kudos

Posted in: Millis
kudos on the wool pullover.P T Barnum knew there is a Sucker born every minute. you proved it.again. to Kevin Houchin, Tom Herlihy, Al Varraso, Kate Waldron and the rest of your
supporters: 3935 votes out of a possible 23,480 is Hardly a mandate for change.it's more a testament to apathy than anything else.yours is a hollow victory that will only change our form of government, not guarantee its success.that comes from participation and guts; fortitude
that has been absent for many years from our elected and appointed officials. consider this: the town's present December 2005 census puts
our population at 32,714 (in 1963 the census was 33 k) of that amount only 23,480 are registered voters and better yet, only 5940 of those
chose to show up April 5th to vote. Woohoo! you guys really hustled the crap outta those folks! SO HOW COME 17,540 chose NOT TO VOTE? it wasn't because WE DIDN'T HAVE A MAYOR! misguided folks who have their heart in the right place are still capable of being wrong. there are 12 precincts in town and on average less than 500 folks showed up at each to stand up and be heard.again sorry excuse for anything resembling a 'vote for change'. that's not even a 'cry for help'.maybe if you offered food, coffee and a ride the town might have managed maybe a 30% turnout.nah, you'd only get that for a prop 2 1/2 vote.so,how will you manage the fact that our
elected and appointed officials are either connected to wealthy businessmen or incompetent hacks? do you think this change will affect
a popularity contest that will produce a candidate to run our town? from what pool do you expect to produce an untainted candidate? that's
really the trick.i say Good Luck and God Bless;you are truly going to need the help from a higher power to pull this off my fellow
visionaries.you should have done more homework than copy Weymouth's charter for success.
