Garland Noise Ordinance Preserves Peace & Quiet

Mar 22, 2002

The Garland Health Department (NOT the Police Department) enforces the city?’s noise ordinance, which restricts noisy activities in or near residential neighborhoods. The ordinance covers any source of noise, such as construction sites, industrial activities, operation of power equipment, and even exterior speakers and television sets. Noisy activities that unduly disturb the peace and quiet of residents are curtailed between the hours of 10pm and 7am.

IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH NOISE, take the following actions:

*Make a note of the time, date, and type of noise that is disturbing you.

*If you can, identify the source of the noise and the violator.

*Call the Health Department during working hours at 972-205-3460.

*Fill out the complaint form and return it to the Health Department. A citation will be issued to the violator, which will result in a fine. Your complaint will remain anonymous unless the violator contests the citation and you are needed to testify (this rarely happens).

*Inform your MCCNA block captain or board member AFTER you have contacted the Health Department. MCCNA will follow up with the health department on your behalf, and will track repeat violators to advocate stiffer punishments and vigorous enforcement.
