DOWNTOWN CIRCULATION STUDY (DCS) UPDATE

The Study is now in its seventh month.  The Project Team has reviewed key documents and past plans, as well as conducted 21 interviews with key stakeholders during a "listening tour".  From this, the Project Team identified "Common Themes", which guides the Study.

The Project Team has held two Advisory Committee meetings (October & November 2008), where participants contributed feedback regarding the future of the Downtown and specific downtown transportation concerns.

In December 2008, over 40 people attended the Study's first Public Workshop.  Members of the pubic provided important feedback regarding the "Common Themes".

The Project Team is currently completing the traffic modeling phase of the project and has begun evaluating potential transit center/corridor locations.

 DCS "COMMON THEMES"

1. Ensure that Downtown streets balance all modes of travel (walking, bicycling, transit, and driving) and include buildings and streetscape that enhance street life.

2. Provide convenient, frequent transit service throughout the City, especially to the train station.

3. Promote a vibrant, healthy Downtown, with a mix of 24-hour uses, through transportation improvements.

4. Reclaim Rodney Square as Downtown's premier public space.

5. Make Downtown more walkable.

6. Improve the existing street system for all modes of travel by timing traffic signals, evaluating street direction changes, and managing on-street parking and loading.

7. Match parking demand with supply.
