By Linda Murphy

If you live within the boundaries of Alma School and Extension ?… Guadalupe Road and the Chandler border ?– this is Marlborough Mesa and you are invited to our annual Easter Egg Hunt and Community Picnic!!

Participants in the egg hunt must be in 6th grade and under and live in Marborough Mesa.

As always, we need adult and teen volunteers to run this event. If you would like to help you can call Linda Murphy at 480-820-5742 or email at asufan2002@yahoo.com. If you are a high school student this can count for your volunteer hours needed for National Honors and Service Learning.

As in previous years, we will try to provide the picnic with the help of donations. Please drop-off any donations thru MARCH 3.

The following items can be dropped off at 3048 S. Spruce St.:

Potato Chips or Doritos
Hot Dogs

A reminder:
?•A parent MUST accompany all children.
?•Prizes are for Marborough Mesa residents only.
?•All parents are responsible for ?“going thru?” the bags and baskets of what their children may receive.
?•You may want to consider bringing; sunscreen, a chair, field games for children, etc. If you do, please remember to put your name on those items.
?•In case of lots of rain ?– this event will be rescheduled.

*Note: We need someone to HELP coordinate the Easter Hunt for next year. Please consider this and see Linda Murphy or call her at 480-820-5742. This event has gotten too large for one person to coordinate it alone. If interested ?– call NOW to see how the event is run this year.

TREASURER'S REPORT
By Debbie Glick

As of 3/1/05, the amount in the neighborhood funds account remains at $1,116.71.

SAVE THOSE BASKETS!

We are again in need of these for the Welcome Baskets. Please donate your leftover Easter Baskets ?– we can reuse them. You can bring them by the Welcome Basket ladies?’ home at 935 Olla. They would be much appreciated.

POOL PATROL

The Maricopa County Attorney?’s office has plans to implement a compliance that pool owners clean their pools up or drain them completely so that mosquitoes cannot breed. This will protect against the West Nile virus, which claimed the lives of 14 people last year alone in Maricopa County.

If neighbors see dirty pools, contact your neighbor about this first. If nothing is done, then contact the Maricopa County Health Department. Homeowners that do not comply could face a $500 fine and up to 30 days in jail for non-compliance.

The Pool Prosecution Program is now being laid out by the Attorney?’s office.

NEIGHBORHOOD GARAGE SALE
APRIL 8 and 9

Jim and I have been accumulating ?“things?” in our garage especially for this sale. We have done some major spring cleaning through the winter and a lot of remodeling.

Our neighborhood tries to have these garage sales at least 2 times a year ?– once in the spring and once in the fall.

I have checked with the ?“school moms?” to make sure there are no school events at this time that would conflict.

This will NOT be advertised in the newspaper, as we have found that most of our customers find out by way of signs.

We need at least 2-3 volunteers to put our signs out and remove them at the various major entrances. Please call Alma at 480-831-1525 if you can help.

We have plenty of time ?– let?’s get our ?“stuff?” together and have a really HUGE sale Friday and Saturday, April 8th and 9th.

WEEDS, WEEDS, WEEDS!

Since our rains have been Soooo good to us this year, they have also brought with them an abundance of those pesky little weeds. Several neighbors have ask that we reprint the Code Compliance brochure from the City of Mesa that has been in former newsletters as a gentle reminder that more care needs to be taken this spring in pulling or spraying those weeds ?– or both. It appears on the back page.

NEIGHBORHOOD NOTES

It appears that Mollera Street from 2902 to 3010 do NOT want to lose their Neighborhood Watch signs. After the article in the last newsletter, we have had 2 ladies volunteer to take over those responsibilities. They are Kristi Ross and Robin Tenant. They will be Captain and Co-captain. It just so happens that they are on opposite ends of the street and between the two of them ?– they know practically everyone on their block already.

We still need someone to take the lead on several of our streets who do not have Neighborhood Watch signs ?– but could have, with very little effort. This is just one more small way we can show ever-present thieves that they need to be careful of this neighborhood because we are watching out for one another.

Call me (Alma) at 480-831-1525 or 602-321-1139 if you are interested in this program. I will put you in touch with the right person at the Police Department and they will send you a booklet with sign-up sheets and materials.

NEIGHBORHOOD PRESERVATION ?–
Property Maintenance Code

HOMES:
In March 2000, Mesa voters approved the Property Maintenance and Neighborhood Preservation Ordinance that require property owners to keep buildings and landscaping clean and repaired. The goal is to keep Mesa neighborhoods safe and attractive, and maintain property values. The new ordinance applies to outside areas that can be seen from the public right-of-way and includes yards, driveways, fences, walls, paint, roofing, sheds, windows and doors. This new code applies to everyone who owns or rents a home in Mesa.

The following list offers examples of items included within the Property Maintenance Code.

?•Exposed, exterior surfaces must be structurally sound and have no holes, breaks, rotting, crumbling, cracking, peeling and rusting. Painted surfaces: no peeling or blistering of paint.

?•Yards and landscaping should be well maintained and free from weeds and litter. They must be kept in good condition, and cannot show uncontrolled growth or general lack of maintenance.

?•Materials, colors and finishes used on buildings, structures or exterior walls and fences must be consistent. For example, you may not paint half of your block wall and leave the other half unpainted.

?•Exterior windows and doors should not be broken, missing or poorly fitted. Window screens should not be excessively worn or have any rips or tears.

?•Canopies and metal awnings should be in good condition - no rips, holes or excessive fading.

?•Roofs should be free from surface breaks, raised edges, and missing, curled loose, or excessively worn shingles.

?•Exhaust ducts, air conditioners and evaporative coolers should be in good repair with no rust.

?•Chimneys should be structurally sound with no cracks, deteriorated mortar, and missing or broken bricks.

?•Fences, screen and retaining walls must be built with standard fencing materials, be free from graffiti, and should not be broken, dilapidated, unsightly, leaning or have missing blocks or slats.

VEHICLES
No abandoned or inoperable vehicle can remain on private property in public view for more than 10 days, nor can it remain on a public street for more than 72 hours. If your vehicle registration is not current, the vehicle may be considered inoperable.

All vehicles parked in the front of your home must be on an improved dustproof surface and must be contiguous to a legal driveway and the parking area cannot exceed a max. of 50% of the front yard area.

"Any abandoned or inoperable vehicle that is partially or wholly dismantled, discarded, wrecked, on blocks or similar devices, stripped, or scrapped; or a vehicle with a deflated tire or tires or from which a wheel or tire has been removed; or any motor vehicle which is inoperable due to mechanical failure or mechanical disassembly or other reasons which may be evidenced by the absence of an unexpired license plate lawfully affixed or assigned thereto."

RECREATIONAL/COMMERCIAL
You cannot store any watercraft, utility, trailer or any non-vehicle mounted camper shell or truck camper in the front of your home. This means you cannot even store these things in your driveway. They must be stored in your backyard behind a 6' fence.

You cannot park any commercial vehicle having a weight of 13,000 lbs or having dual rear wheels exceeding 17" in diameter in your yard or on the street at any time except while a commercial service is being provided.

TO REPORT A VIOLATION:
To access complete Property Maintenance Code or to report violation(s) please contact us at 480- 644-2061, FAX a list to 480-644-2897 or report online at http://www.cityofmesa.org/codecomp/.
