MARLBOROUGH MESA?’s
4th ANNUAL CHRISTMAS TOY DRIVE
By Sandra Fischer

It's that time of year again we have the opportunity to share good fortune with others through our 4th Annual Christmas Toy Drive. Marlborough Mesa residents have actively and generously supported this event in the past, so I know you will again this year. We have very few details at this time, but the date, time and place have been set:

December 4, 2004
10:30 AM - 12:00 noon
(at our Park)

Place this on your calendars and be ready to party, mingle and have lunch with all your neighbors while donating a toy to a worthy cause. Our Christmas Toy Drive has always supported the children living at the East Valley Child Crisis Center. The children there are looking for a home or going through steps to be reunited with their biological families. They need our support.

Once again, Santa will be there for pictures and to hear the requests of all our children's wishes. There will be food and fun for all. I look forward to seeing you there.

We will have full details in the November Newsletter. Should you have questions before then, you may call me at 480-820-2773.

NEIGHBORHOOD EMAIL LIST

A Key Component to Neighborhood Safety!
By Linda Murphy

The recent conduct of an individual in and around Marlborough force us to watch more carefully what is going on in our neighborhood.

If you were on our Neighborhood Email list you would have received information along with a picture of this person.

The neighborhood adjacent to us across Extension never knew anything about this unless they heard or read the news ?– or one of our residents told them about it ?– and the apprehended man lived there!

The following is part of the article from the Tribune in September:

"MAN ARRESTED IN RASH OF PEEPING
By Kristina Davis
About 20 Mesa women, including Several minors, were victimized by a Peeping Tom who touched or exposed himself while looking at them through windows, police said.

Eric Robert Aros, 22, was arrested on suspicion of several counts of public indecency and criminal trespassing.

Aros would enter fenced back yards to look through the windows, where he would masturbate, then run off when women saw him, police said.

During the police surveillance, police said
Aros was seen walking alone at night several times. DNA evidence collected at the crime scenes later connected Aros to the incidents.
He told police there were about 20 incidents.

Aros is being held on $225,000 bail, and
if released will be required to wear a
monitoring device."

This information is still on our website in the Talk About It area with a link to his picture.

Situations like this continue to stress the importance of our ability to pass along information in an efficient and timely manner to our neighbors. If you have not joined our Neighborhood Email list, please contact Sandy Scully and/or Alma Jones to add your information. Also, if you have not received an email recently, you probably have changed your email address and it needs to be updated in the database.

All email addresses are kept confidential.

The website and our emails are all at the top left side of this newsletter. However, most information we send is posted on the website ?– getting the email from us is merely a service offered to have important things reach you quicker.

(Police say: ?“If you saw any incidents similar to this and did not report it to Police at the time, if you have been a victim, witnessed, or have information regarding this, please call the Mesa Police Department at 480-644-2211. Please report any suspicious activity to the Mesa Police Department immediately at 911.?”)

LADIES SELF-DEFENSE CLASS
By Monica Tarrence

I just wanted to remind every lady we are having a very extensive women?’s self-defense class on October 16-17 from 8:00 am -5:00 on both days. There are three more openings so if anyone is interested in these slots please call me A.S.A.P. 480-993-6056. The cost is $175.00. More info can be found in the Discussions of our website.

NEW SAFETY STOP LINES

In an effort to curtail some of the speeds on Pecos, the city recently painted double lines prior to the stop signs because people were just NOT stopping.

Emerson is a designated fire route into our neighborhood, therefore can have no stop signs, so Pecos and Plata must have them.

Residents are hopeful this help from the city would alert people ?– possibly helping with the speeding issue that all streets seem to have.

Those of you who live close to that intersection, please keep me posted (as Don has done) in the next few months as to how these double lines are working. If they are NOT working at all and you see no slow down in traffic, we can then take it back to the city.

PROPER BATTERY DISPOSAL
By Linda Murphy

Did you know that BATTERIES PLUS on the NW corner of Elliot and Dobson provides free disposal of ?“rechargeable and non-rechargeable lithium (coin and watch) batteries, even if they were not purchased there? However, they DO NOT take Alkaline or HEAVY DUTY batteries.

NEIGHBORHOOD NOTES ...

NEWSLETTER DISTRIBUTING COORDINATOR

Teresa Weiland is not only the person who delivers your newsletter on Obispo. She is also an Ambassador who delivers a Welcome Basket to new homeowners on her street. She now has volunteered to become our new Newsletter Distributing Coordinator. These were responsibilities that Mary Kleinhans had in the past of sorting and bundling all 469 printed newsletters for other newsletter helpers who pass it out throughout MM.

So ?… if you are one of those ?“Newsletter Helpers?”, please make her job a bit easier by coming to pick up those newsletters once she contacts you. Remember, she must make approximately 20 contacts once she has the newsletters all bundled. You may pick those up at her home at 829 W.Obispo Teresa?’s number and email: 480-897-0276 coffeedude@cox.net

We are always in need of volunteers, as people move or have schedules changed. If you were not able to help in the past ?– perhaps you can now. So, please call or email Teresa if you can help with ANY street and in ANY way ?– even as a backup.

NEW AMBASSADORS ON PERALTA

Peralta has needed an Ambassador for the 8 and 900 block for quite a long time now. We are pleased now that Michael and Sandra Fischer will be the new Ambassadors for the 900 block of that street. If you are interested, the 800 block is still available. You may remember Sandra as the coordinator of our Annual Christmas Toy Drive.

A FEW MORE NEEDED

We do still need an Ambassador volunteer for OSAGE, OLLA and the 800 Blk of PERALTA to deliver a Welcome Basket to new neighbors on your street. If you are interested and would like to help, please email or call one of the numbers on the front at the top left corner of this newsletter.

VOLUNTEER FOR NEWSLETTER HELP

We have a new volunteer to pass out newsletters to homes on Pampa and Wycliff (at the park). She is Beth Simpson (Pampa) and has lived in MM since her home was built.
Also, Robin Gipper (Portobello) has volunteered to pass out any street, as she walks every morning.

NEW WELCOME BASKET LADIES

New volunteers to package all our Welcome Baskets for new residents come in the form of some ?“young?” ladies ?– Sarah and Krista Glick on Olla.

Krista is in her last year at Dobson High and Sarah is attending ASU.

If you have a new neighbor ?– give a call or email to jnajones@cybertrails.com or 480-831-1525 and we will have the Ambassador for your street deliver one of these ladies?’ ?“creations.?”

ANOTHER NEW VOLUNTEER

These volunteers have lived here for about 9 years and recently have a new baby named Connor who is just 4 months old. Debbie and Pete Mertens (Mollera) want to get involved and are taking on 2 ?“jobs?” ?– that of Ambassador and Newsletter Helper.
