Focus Group/ NEIGHBORHOOD MEETING
By Becky Claycomb (Posada)

Fall is fast approaching and neighbors are begin-ning to discuss the neighborhood surveys done over the summer. The number one issue was the Clean Sweep dumpsters and that project is already under-way. The second most important issue, according to the survey, was speed humps. Everyone in the community has an opinion on the subject, either for or against. Because of this, and the need to accom-modate a large group, a Neighborhood Meeting is scheduled for: Sept. 23 from 3:00-4:00 pm at the Dobson Branch Library, 2425 S. Dobson Rd.
A representative from the Mesa Fire Dept will speak about what streets are"off limits" to the humps and what the pros and cons are. Also present will be Officer Carlos Gastelum & Debbie Driscol from the City Neighborhood Office. THIS IS YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO DISCUSS THIS ISSUE!

CLEAN SWEEP AND GREEN SWEEPS ARE BACK
Since the Focus Group Survey results came in, 43% have indicated they would like the dumpsters. These will remain in each area 4 days. Scheduled time is:

Oct 17-10 dumpsters on 900 blks of Olla, Osage, 8-900 blk of Obispo and 28-2900 blk of Emerson
Oct 18-10 dumpsters on 800-900 blk of Plata, Pecos, Portobello
Oct 24-10 dumpsters on Pampa, Posada, Peralta, 30-3100 Spruce
Oct 25-10 dumpsters on Wycliff, 1100 blks of Pampa, Mollera, 2900 blk of Spruce, 10-1100 blks of Portobello, Pecos, Plata and Obispo

Each set of these 10 dumpsters will have: 5 CLEAN Sweep and 5 GREEN Sweep. Since October will be a prime month for cutting and trimming of bushes, trees and plants, having the availability of the green sweep containers will be an added plus this year.

This is the first time for any neighborhood in the City of Mesa to be able to "sign up" for these online. This is thanks to all of you who have sent emails requesting the dumpsters. I have taken all of those emails (signatures) to the City for all streets.
By using the email system, this has allowed us to accomplish this in much SHORTER time.

JOINED OUR NEIGHBORHOOD EMAIL YET?
It is easy, free, informative and safe! Send me your email address at jnajones@cybertrails.com You may reach Jim and Alma Jones at 480-831-1525 or 602-321-1139. We live at 1031 W. Posada Avenue.
When you have something that the entire community would benefit from - I encourage you to put it in the Discussion area of our website:

RATE YOUR RISK -- TAKE THE TEST
This site offers a TEST that you can take to find out what YOUR risks are for burglary or rape and offers suggestions as to how you can improve on those scores once you have taken it. This is on our homepage.
I heard about it on Channel 15 News and it is a pretty impressive site by the Nashville Metro Police Dept. Try it -- you might be surprised.

WHILE WALKING YOUR DOG ...
Please be considerate of others' property. There have been many complaints of doggie "treats" left on lawns. Do carry something with you to care for this.

NEW CRIME STATISTICS PAGE
Please welcome Naomi Mills (Posada). Naomi has kindly agreed to care for the new Crime Stats Page on our website as well as adding a few Community Hotlinks. She will be contacting the Police Department every month for the update and will place the new numbers under the Police and Safety. These stats will only include Marlborough Mesa.

Statistics provided will be Robbery, Criminal Damage (includes all types of vandalism - cars, prop.,etc.), Juveniles Disturbing, Subject Disturbing, Theft, Burglary, Stolen Vehicles, Suspicious Activity, Suspicious Persons and Prowler.

Naomi has taken the responsibility for quite some time now in passing out our newsletter on Posada every month. She has now added this as a new service to our community.

THE NEWEST AMBASSADOR IS ...
Elaine -- she "puppy sits" for people in their own homes. She also cares for her Mom and Dad who live with her and has even found time to help me in putting together our Welcome Packets. She is Elaine Duford on Plata. However, none of the Ambassadors have been too busy lately - I am told that as of this printing there are absolutely NO homes for sale in Marlborough. This rarely happens.

LAST 2 ENTRANCE SIGNS UP!
I feel sure you have seen them -- they look great! Drive by if you have not-- they are at Pampa/Wycliff and Emerson/ Guadalupe. Mark Cefalu & Ron Hedger (Spruce) and Joe Johnson (Obispo) surprised us all by installing them and THEN telling us!

THE MARLBOROUGH SINGLES
The singles group will have their next meeting August 30th,, 7:30 pm at my home at 939 W. Posada. You will be notified again by email. If you do not have email, please call and leave your phone number if you are new to the group. This is a no age limit group - so don't be afraid to join in. Everyone coming will indeed be single - just like you!

I will furnish the meats and ask that you bring a dish to share. Also - please bring a friend - anyone even outside Marlborough. After all, the object of this is just meeting people and having fun. The pool is available if anyone would care for swimming.
If you did not receive a flyer about the last meeting - you are not on the list. So call 831-0312 or email: ladyspirit48@yahoo.com

MEDIA MANAGER OR CAMERA BUFF?
Anyone out there interested in either taking photos of events in Marlborough or managing them on a Webshot site? If so, call 831-1525. We don't have many, but it would be nice to have them available online. We can get a Comm. Acct. thru Webshots.com

A "WALK-A-THON" THRU OUR NEIGHBORHOOD
Gary Fossell (Portobello) has suggested that we have a "pick-up all the trash day" throughout our neighborhood. It is an excellent idea - the sooner - the better. In the gutters and sides of yards, there are many items that need disposed of properly. We can get our EXERCISE and make our neighborhood look better in doing so. YOUR help is needed though.
We will all meet at our Park* early Saturday morning, Sept. 14th at 9:30 am and walk at least 2 per street. We will FEEL better and the neighborhood will LOOK better. Bring a plastic garbage bag and glove.
*In case I have not mentioned our "Park" lately - for those of you who are new to the neighborhood, we owe many thanks to Mike Whiting (Portobello) who headed up the committee and was largely responsible for getting this built. Thank you Mike - we have put it to good use a lot in the past year.

GARAGE SALE / G.A.I.N. -- OCTOBER 21
This will indeed be a big day for the residents of Posada and Spruce. They are planning a GARAGE SALE through the daytime and having their G.A.I.N. (Getting Arizona Involved in Neighborhoods) Party that evening!
This can be a Neighborhood Garage Sale if other streets would like to get involved - the more the merrier! Read more about it on our website in the Discussion Area (Talk About It).

FIX UP DAY
Several neighbors volunteered to do some repairs and maintenance on one of our homes in the neighborhood this past month.
Thanks go especially to Dennis Krygier (Pampa), Gary Fossell (Portobello) and the entire family of Linda and Mike Murphy (Spruce). We also had 6 young men from the city to help us. We could see a lot accomplished that day. Gary would like to make it known that if ANYONE needs help mowing their lawn or trimming - please call him. He is very willing to help. His number is 756-1194.
Thanks also go to Jimmie Dean (Extension) for heading up the "cutting of the palm trees" effort. I do believe that is still ongoing. JAloha50@aol.com
