Marlborough Mesa

JUNE/JULY 2000

Feb 16, 2003

And the WINNER is ...
Nina and Don Williams of Peralta! Cash in the amount of $1,491.00 was handed to them after winning the 50/50 Raffle. Oh, what a few tickets can turn into ?… Congratulations!

PAID IN FULL ?… ALL 3 SIGNS
Those remaining signs should be in place before the end of July. They will be located at the entrances of Guadalupe/Emerson and Alma School/Pampa.

SILENT Auction ?… 50/50 RAFFLE ?…
LIVE Auction ?… ICE CREAM Social ?…
Neighborhood GARAGE SALE ?…
All of those events were fund raisers to purchase our remaining signage and they are now paid for entirely. Everyone working together has made it all possible. Quite an achievement for our tiny town!

After the terrible tragedy of the fire on Posada that happened at the May 20th "Pig out at the Park", the Focus Group found it very inappropriate to continue with the Silent Auction at that time. The raffle ticket was drawn but the auction was rescheduled.

On May 28th, the silent auction became a LIVE AUCTON with Tammie Johnson's brother, Steve, as the auctioneer. At that time, Tammie also came up with the idea of an "Ice Cream Social". That was a "hot" night and a "cool" idea!

WEBSHOTS.COM
(From the Marlborough Mesa Auction!)
By Roberta Laidman (Obispo)

Here are the 9 best photos I have from the park auction. There's nothing to identify who the people are or where the gathering took place. Nonetheless, if anyone objects to having his/her or a child's picture posted, let me know and I'll remove the picture at once. My email: laidman@uswest.net

Also, if you click on an image, the page with the enlargement gives you options to download images or order prints. Read the terms to decide whether or not you want to do this. I believe Webshots.com offers some free-bees...but don't quote me!

I'll keep this Webshots page up until people stop visiting it. (Webshots provide statistics - so far there have been 80 peeks at the pics!).

CAN YOU FIND your PICTURE?
This month Crystal Prentice who is the editor of Across the Back Fence, a publication of the City of Mesa, has provided us with a "special" extra of her own on our neighborhood. On the front cover was the article written by our own Kelly Wendel (Posada).

Also there is a picture of all the residents standing in front of our new Marlborough Mesa sign. That picture was taken by someone who has been more giving of her time (at work and home) toward helping us with everything we have accomplished here. She is Debbie Driscol, the City of Mesa Neighborhood Coordinator.

She is an endless supply of knowledge and not only helps our neighborhood with all my questions, but she comes to as many of our functions as possible. The certificates you received in April was her idea. Talk about "friends" of Channel 8 - she has indeed been a friend of Marlborough Mesa!

NEIGHBORHOOD SURVEY
There is another extra sheet -- a survey to find out what is most important to YOU as the next project.

Wait! Don't toss it yet - deadline is June 30, 2000. "If you don't vote - you lose gripping rights!"
_________________________
Our first and second projects were so successful - that together we can accomplish anything if only we have a vision.

Imagine you are "standing in the future": close your eyes and try to visualize what you see here in 1 year ?… 5-10 years. Are we making improvements?

Now look back 1 year ago ?… 5 - 10 years ago. Think about all the things that have been accomplished here within that last year! Think about what it looked like before our fences were painted, our landscaping in and our 1st sign up. Tremendous? You bet! A little effort from a lot of neighbors is why. That vision became a reality in less than a year.
_________________________
Please read this survey carefully. When they have been returned from you (drop them off in the "Make a Difference Basket" at 1031 W. Posada), we will tally them and find out which one comes first, second and so on. Please return these no later than JUNE 30. Our basket decoration is compliments of Becky Chvarak (Pampa) ?… "Baskets by Becky?"!

Also - be willing to take an active part in those you feel strongly about. Our first Focus Group did an excellent job - let's put together another with some new faces. If we all "take a turn", it won't be difficult for any one of us.

THREE MORE AMBASSADORS ?…
Jimmie and Chauntel Dior Dean (Extension), Becky Chvarak (Pampa) and Michele and Ken Lesher (Pecos) are our newest couples to take this responsibility. From the time you accept this "little detail", you never know just how many people will be moving in on your street. Just ask Michele and Ken - they had homes on BOTH sides of them move in within a month and the one across has just sold.

These couples are now a part of our "Welcome Wagon" here in Marlborough. This may seem like a small thing to some - but it takes TIME.

Just like a flower blossoms from a bud and then becomes something beautiful for all to share, so do our Welcome Wagon duties - each Ambassador agrees to plant the seeds, water them, and create that
beautiful flower - called "friendship and pride."

We are all ambassadors in our own way, so when you know you have a new neighbor, even if you aren't the one delivering the packet, meet and greet our new homeowners. With our best feet forward, we ensure that each new person moving in feels as we do, that "Marlborough Mesa is 'HOME'".

If you know of someone moving in - call 831-1525 to get your free Welcome Packet. If you would like to become an Ambassador on your street - call.

ANYONE FOR HOME-WORK?
If there are those willing to take about 20 Welcome Packets to your home and print out the covers, attach them and choose a couple of articles from our website, I could use a bit of help. All materials are provided. Please call 831-1525 or 602-321-1139.

THE MARLBOROUGH SINGLES
By Renee' Coelho (Posada)
The singles group had their first get together in May, with the next one in the planning stages and to take place late July or early August. It will be at my home at 939 W. Posada. The first meeting was a great success at Gary Fossell's- so join us again.

If you have suggestions as to type of function (bbq, swim, etc), call 831-0312. If you did not receive a flyer about the last meeting - you are not on the list. So call or email: ladyspirit48@yahoo.com

BABYSITTING CONNECTION/TEEN SUMMER JOBS
By Renee' Coelho (Posada)
I would love to have feedback on this, as several have signed up. Those who have signed up - are you are getting jobs? Would you like to sign up? Call or email: 831-0312 / ladyspirit48@yahoo.com

Please think about using these teenagers for your jobs or just some extra help this summer. It will give them spending money as well as something to do and you will be getting some great help!

OUR NEWSLETTER AND WEBSITE
There will be only 2 newsletters published during the summer - June/July and Aug/Sept. If you have contributions (as many have) please email me. I always WELCOME those.

Our newsletter appears online at the below address. The interactive area is the Talk About It section. At present we are distributing the newsletter from door to door. By next year, it may be only online.

If you have NOT yet sent your name and email address, please do so. You will receive information pertaining to our neighborhood like the ones sent in regard to the Posada fire on May 20th, 2000. Send your name, address and email to: jnajones@cybertrails.com

TRIMMING THE TREES
By Jimmie Dean (Extension)
I've spoken to a neighborhood contractor about the trimming and cutting of Palm and Eucalyptus trees throughout our neighborhood and a discount if enough people participate. There is a discussion going on right now in "Talk About It" on our homepage at: neighborhoodlink.com/mesa/marlborough/. There are interests, but the cost will depend upon the number of trees and their condition. As of this writing, we currently have approximately 70+ trees that people have indicated they would like to have trimmed.

For those folks who do not have e-mails, they can reach me at 480.345.2509. This subject will be discussed at our next Focus Group meeting. In the meantime, I need to get names/numbers/e-mails from those individuals who would like to participate.

Clearly, our neighborhood will look great if we all work together and get as many folks to participate in this worthy endeavor. My email: JAloha50@aol.com

REPORT FROM OUR TREASURERS
By Ginger and Rick Richter (Obispo)
All monies collected are public record and you may see these at any time. Just call us at 897-1295. Our beginning balance was $2,220. Funds raised were $2,598 = $4,818 total. Total cost for 2 signs: $4,318. Balance now in account: $500. We still have a few checks coming in from the auction as of this writing and should raise our balance a little beyond $600.
