(Pampa and Alma School)

________________

Several Mesa dignitaries will be present with our Councilman Dennis Kavanaugh "cutting
the ribbon".

Our newly landscaped corners on Alma School and Pecos and Pampa have been finished just in time for all the festivities. Many neighbors have worked toward this goal - your efforts do not go unnoticed.

Lunch will be provided following festivities. This will be a FREE lunch, as several neighbors have decided to "have the party" for everyone. It is not our wish to see anyone miss the festivities because of a charge involved. So please plan to be there. I realize that this is contrary to the flyer you received a few days ago.

Focus Group
By Becky Claycomb
(Posada)
The Marlborough Mesa Focus Group 2000 met Tuesday night, 3/21/00, at Nello's Pizza. Nine people attended and great ideas were shared. The group decided that a raffle with several substantial prizes was the best way to raise the monies needed for the remaining two signs. Members of the group are going to approach local businesses for prizes.

The Focus Group also decided to schedule our next neighborhood party. The raffle drawing will be held at that party. The date selected is Saturday, May 20.

We still need your help! If you have a contact with a local business that could donate cash for the raffle or a prize please let me know.

The Focus Group plans another meeting Tuesday, April 4th, from 5:00 - 6:00 P.M. at Nello's
pizza. We would love to have more people there!

Ideas or thoughts? E-mail or call me and we can discuss them at larryc@asu.uswest.net or 839-6006.

A special thanks to Nello's for their hospitality and 20% discount on our purchases that evening.

Our newest Ambassadors are ?…
Karen and Drew Walsh of Obispo. They are now part of our "Welcome Wagon" here in Marlborough. That brings us to a total of 6 couples. If you wish to become a part of this, please call 480-831-1525 or 602-321-1139 or go to our website to read about all of our Ambassadors.

If you know of someone moving in - pick up the phone and give a call to the number above. One of our Ambassadors will take them a Welcome Packet.

Same Song ?… 2nd Verse
If you were among those painting our Guadalupe fence March 4, you know what we accomplished. We were DONE by 9:30 am!!!! Now, keep in mind - "we had only just begun" at 7:00 and took the time to have breakfast furnished by Cecil Duarte and Greg Douthit. We learned from doing Alma School, right? Right!

There was a steady stream of people manning that fence line! I think the children were even MORE involved this time - very good to see that they too, are concerned about the community they live in - those are "moments" that last a lifetime. There were 4 people who "prepped" the used brick pillars to insure that those were not painted also. Thanks go to everyone who participated in whatever capacity.

The ?“Devil Dog?” Gang
For those of you who do not have the internet and are not aware ?… you may have seen more POLICE than normal in our area - on bikes as well as in cars. That is because Jordan Jarvis, who lives in our neighborhood, was one of the young men who was nearly fatally killed by this gang. There are also unmarked cars in our area, as our neighborhood is under a 24-hour surveillance as of last week.

This gang is known to be VERY violent. If you notice cars or activities that are not normal, please call the police, as they are very aware of this gang's presence and will respond. We DO NOT want to unnecessarily call them though. This gang has also been associated with Sammy "the Bull" Gravano and the Ecstasy Drug Ring.

This is a quote from "Hansa" which I thought deserving of printing. "This is very disturbing news, but certainly not insurmountable. I hope everyone stays a little more alert than usual. I hope those of you with children will find a way to discuss this with them in an appropriate manner. I feel it's important to include them, because they are, after all, the ones out playing on the street, and they might see things that we don't. Above all, reassure them, and be good examples for them. I don't believe we should hide in our houses either - the more we are visible in our own community, the harder it is for anyone to view us as vulnerable."

Nothing can replace the "eyes" and the "ears" of an entire neighborhood.

Neighborhood of the Year
Our community has been nominated by the City of Mesa for the Neighborhood of the Year award. This is a National award, and our community and those working in it should be very proud of this nomination. We will know who actually won this award in June.
For those who are on the website - ours is now a "Premier Website" throughout the country via Neighborhood Link. Our web address is: neighborhoodlink.com/mesa/marlborough.
Join in by providing me with your email address. This is a community service and there are NO charges.

The Portobello Challenge
By Nancy Borg
Bret Borg on Portobello Avenue started an NCAA pool with all of his neighbors. The cost for entering the pool was $10, with $2 of that entry fee being donated to the entrance sign fund.
This challenge raised $28 for the signs. Can your street come up with any fun ideas for fund raisers?

Any More Honor Students?
By Karen Walsh
(Obispo)
If your child is an Honors Student - you should be proud to let it be known.
We have so many in Marlborough and I have not received as many names as I know we have. If you have not called or emailed me with his or her name - please don't let our May Newsletter be published without their name appearing. They deserve it! The deadline for putting their names in the newsletter is April 15 - (just like tax time)!
If you know of someone's child who is an Honors Student and perhaps they are not on the internet, just call me with their name and the school they attend. You may contact me at 480-839-8006 or Email: kwalsh95@aol.com .

Know Where Your Kitty is Today?
There has been a major outcry from many, many neighbors with the hope of solving the "cat" problem in our community. Some of these cats are wild cats, but some belong to you. If they are yours - Protect them!
I realize this is a very sensitive issue and may spark some high emotions, but it simply needs to be addressed. The stray cats make loud noises and create a huge mess.
Please help control the population here. Trap them if they do not belong to you. Several people are already doing this. You can "lease" a cat trap for $30 security deposit but you need a reservation. They will come and pick up the cat you have trapped as many times as needed. Call 644-2268.
In April they will neuter or spay your kitty: male-$10, female-$25. There is also a spay/neuter clinic in Tempe at Priest & Southern very reasonably priced: 829-1002.

2nd SIGN CONTRIBUTORS
By Rick and Ginger Richter
(Obispo)
Donations continue to trickle in. We believe that once everyone sees the first sign up on April 1st those contributions may once again increase.
Those peoples' names who have donated toward that 2nd sign will appear in the newsletter once our goal has been achieved.
Thank you all for your generosity, for without YOU, none of this would have been possible.

OUR MARLBOROUGH NEWSLETTER
This is an update from last month with regard as to how this newsletter will be distributed.

Are you willing to take one of these streets (every month) and pass it out? If no one volunteers to do those particular areas, it would be a shame, but they will not receive the newsletter next month.
