Our "Crumbly" Streets

Aug 03, 2007

Hello Friends and Neighbors,

The following is the message I received after talking with Ted Stalder and Randy Firnbach of the Street Maintenance Dept. at the City about our crumbling streets:

(Randy knows that this message will be going out to everyone on our email list.) (When the asphalt begins to crumble in front of your own home ?– you may just want to call them and ask for the sweeper to come thru again.)

Dear Alma:

Per our conversation yesterday, yes there was a problem with the slurry emulsion while the application was being applied in May/July to the Marlborough Mesa subdivision. The result is that the mat has taken longer to set (harden) in the summer heat and has raveled (loose Aggregate) more then usual. The product will still perform to standards over time; it?’s just going to take time. Cooler nights, rain and traffic flow will improve the situation also as we go forward. We will continue to monitor the situation and sweep the area as needed. Then in the fall, if necessary I will consult with Ted Stalder (Chief Engineering Tech.) if any further treatment is needed.
I know this may not be the answer you were wanting, but time is the best solution in this situation. Thank you for your patience in this matter. If you have any questions please contact me via e-mail (randy.firnbach@cityofmesa.org) or at 480-644-2565.

Thank you again for your patience.

Sincerely
Randy Firnbach
