Concerned Residents Against Airport Pollution
UPDATE
Regarding Mondays S.M. Airport Commission meeting ?– 11/24/03 7:30pm
Santa Monica City Hall ?– City Council Chamber - 1685 Main Street

** The Agenda for Monday?’s November 24th meeting of the Santa Monica Airport Commission is now available on line.
Go to: JETAIRPOLLUTION.COM and click the Calendar page, then click agenda for the Commission meeting.

With the exception of item 7c and 3/c/i, the hot issue items from last month?’s meeting have been put off, it seems, until the 2004 year. It is, however, still important to keep voicing our concerns about how our quality of life has been affected by the changes in the air traffic at the airport. Each of us can speak for three minutes under item 5 Noise Management, and again, for another three minutes, about anything not covered on the agenda, under item 10 Public Comment.
PUBLIC COMMENT: Persons wishing to address the Airport Commission regarding items on the agenda must submit their name and item in writing to the Airport Commission secretary prior to any discussion of the item. Request to speak forms are available throughout the meeting. Remarks may be limited to 3 minutes per person. If more than 15 persons wish to speak on an item, remarks may be limited to 2 minutes per person by Commission vote or ruling of the chair.

An Item on the agenda that you may want to speak about is carried over from last month?’s meeting regarding the possible approval of RCL
Red Carpet Limousine Service Inc.?’s Commercial Operations Permit (COP).

Speak on agenda Item 3/c/i

They want to have two Stretch Limousines, two Lincoln Town Cars, and office space at 3200 Airport Ave, #8 (on the south side of Airport Ave). Their hours of operation are from 7am to 11pm.

Last month, several neighbors spoke about their concern that this service would cater to the jetsetters using the airport.

I feel that if Santa Monica is serious about addressing the influx of jet traffic at the airport, they surely would not approve this RED CARPET treatment for the jetsetters.

I urge all of you, who feel the same, to join me, and other Concerned Residents, by using your three minutes for this agenda item and speak on Item 3/c/i under the Consent Calendar.

** I received the following report from Santa Monica Task Force on the Environment member Susan Mearns.

Good news - City Staff relayed that the AQMD has decided to combine the assessment of Santa Monica?’s airport into the AQMD?’s MATES III Study. The MATES II Study was completed and published in 2000 and is considered to be a comprehensive analysis of air pollution from various sources. AQMD is planning on including general aviation as a source of emissions in the MATES III Study for the first time.

MATES stands for Multiple Air Toxics Exposure Study in the South Coast Air Basin. If you don?’t have a copy of the MATES II Study you can request one from the SCAQMD.
