CITY CODE VIOLATIONS

For our new neighbors--Columbus Laws

Did you know we have code regulations in all of Columbus? To help you better understand them, we have given up you some of the more important ones that are being violated. We have several new residents who have moved into our neighborhood and they may not be aware of these regulations. Be a good neighbor and help them to feel welcome and explain any code violation(s) to them.


1. No fences over 6 ft. high. None in front of home without permit. They can not be
located in a vision clearance area.
2. Commercial vehicles are prohibited on residential property. There is no time frame
for parking, only time required to deliver service for goods.
3. Boats, trailers, recreational vehicles may not be parked or stored in driveway or in
the set back (front lawn).
4. Gravel as a parking surface is prohibited.
5. Parking vehicles on grass or gravel is not allowed.
6. Inoperable vehicles prohibited.
7. Sheds can not exceed 168 sq. ft. and can not be located in front of home facing street.
8. You can not alter, change or modify driveways to accommodate additional space without a variance.
9. You can not change a garage to accommodate additional living space without a building permit and variance.
10. Garage sales: 2 per year and not to exceed 4 days.
11. Code enforcement will write orders for compliance of weeds, grass, trash debris, dead and dying trees.
12. TRASH CANS: Residents must remove waste containers (garage cans) within 24 hours of the collection and store them until 12 hours prior to next scheduled collection.
13. BULK PICK-UP: It is the duty of each resident to call refuse collection division of the need for bulk pick up. (PLEASE DON’T SET ITEMS OUT BY THE CURB AND LEAVE THEM.)
14. BUNDLES: Sticks, limbs, carpet and etc. Must be tied and not to exceed 4 ft. in length and 2 ft. diameter and not weigh more than 50 lbs.
15. No person shall allow the house, kennel, runs yards or other premises where dogs, cats or other small animals are kept to become offensive due to unsanitary conditions.
16. DOGS MUST BE ON A LEASH AT ALL TIMES WHEN OUTSIDE. Owners must clean up after the pet(s) while walking through the neighborhood.
17. No carts, crates or carriers are allowed on lawns or driveways.
18. NO VEHICLES ARE TO BE REPAIRED ON PERSONAL PROPERTY UNLESS THE VEHICLE(S) BELONG TO THE OWNER OF THE PROPERY.
19. Parking prohibited for displaying vehicle(s) for sale on street and/or lawn.
20. No parking on sidewalks or within 10 ft. of a fire hydrant.
21. All vehicles must be operable (no flats) when parked on street or driveways.
22. BOATS, TRAILERS OR RECREATIONAL VEHICLES MAY NOT BE PARKED ON DRIVEWAY.
