Our homes in Madison Park are mostly 50-odd years old, many built over crawlspaces. They've been retrofitted with air conditioning, with the coils and ductwork located in the crawlspace.
I'd love ot hear how my neighbors are handling sweaty ductwork during these humid summers. I have pools of water standing on the vapor barrier under my house. The uninsulated fabricated metal ducts have all been replaced with new insulated flex ductwork, but the problem is still there. I was under the house yesterday, and water is streaming off of the ducts onto the 6-mil poly on the ground, and gathering there in puddles.
There are lots of services offering to solve the problem, using any number of techniques, all of them adament that the other guys will ruin your house.
Has anyone successfully solved the problem? How did you do it? I'm not looking for contractors offering to fix it for me. I'm looking for a good solution that works in our area. Then I'll find someone to implement it.
I'm guessing I'm not the only one with this problem in our neighborhood. A good discussion here may help more than one family maintain their home and head off water damage, mold and insects.
Thanks in advance for any experiences, opinions and/or anectotes on the subject -
