Madison Park bad press

Posted in: Madison Park

As the "president", perhaps you take the high road and stop arguing with the neighbors.

We aren't stupid. We get the CharMeck rules.  We are all fully aware this year.  Perhaps next spring, when folks get out and tend to their yards we might need the reminder.  But its overkill and unnecessary.

As the older folks are leaving the neighborhood more and more, you are going to have a lot more people tending to their yards.  Its just the way it is.  Physically the older former residents couldn't tend to their yards the way the younger residents can.  And for those of us with young children, we'll tend to our yards in early spring so our kids can play safely when we are outside more.

You are going to have to recognize this.  Sure you help with the sidewalks and the signs and such, but if you don't start giving credit where credit is due, you are going to be dealing with this every year.

Here is something to work on.  How about a tree company?  There are LOTS of beautiful treens in this neighborhood.  But banding trees, trimming trees, dead tree removal and stump removal is expensive.  I know a friend in Myers Park pays into a "tree pool" and one company comes around and bands their trees and also give them a discount for other work on their trees.  Can you do something like that?  That would be a better way to spend your time.

And again...I implore you...stop arguing with us.  Sometimes the best response is no response at all.

Thanks

Since you asked a ? I am going to trust you would like an answer.

I actually just talked to someone last weekend about tree banding.   The canker worms were terrible this year. I never had them until this year on my tree and I don't want them next fall.    The person wanted to think over the idea of doing a tree banding grant.  Maybe will do a grant this fall to band  trees.   The person I discussed this with told me they might come to the meeting and bring it up.  We would have to do it from the HOA to obtain the grant, but this type grant is pretty easy.

I am really not arguing.  I really did not intend to bring the topic back up after I mentioned it in Feb. at the meeting.    I was just stating the fact that I don't control 311 or know who uses it, nor do I care who uses it.   They asked if it was just me.   The answer is NO.   The Truth is I don't know who puts stuff in.

Matter of fact if you were to go back and check the minutes and discussion post you would see that various topics repeat or come up every year.  We have done this for education. Like normally every spring we talk about yard sales and how to get permits.   I realize we have new people in and out and not everyone knows the rules.   The article that ran told how to use 311 and showed all the violations.   It would of been a more timely article had it ran 45 days earlier than May.   It did not so it drummed it back up.   As you see this post was brought back up from May again almost a month later.  The post drove it back to the top not me.    When I said I was not going to discuss it any more I actually had people tell me "that is not being a good leader to not address."   I actually had a complaint last month after the meeting that I didn't address the article and a person contacted me and referred to my post in their message where I said I didn't plan on discussing it any more at that point.  You are correct there is not much more to say on the topic.  I didn't say anything else about it until this person seemed to be confused as to my current role in the topic.  My reply was really for them not the entire HOA.  Since I don't know who that person is I could not reply directly to them privately.

Some of you seem to forget everyone has my contact.  If you want to reach out to me I have made it easy.    Very few have on this topic.    If you choose to post on our discussion post and not reveal your identity then I can only respond if I choose on this site.

Anyway I have not mentioned it unless it was asked of me,  and it has only come up by three people on this site.   You are one of the 3.    I really didn't know how to take your WOW last month.   3 post considering we have thousands in our boundaries is not many.  If you noticed I didn't reply to your Wow.

You can't please everyone.  Some you can never please.   I don't even try.

I have had the city remove stumps in the ROW and dead trees for free for various neighbors in Madison Park.   I have brought this up in the past at meetings to try and help people save some money.   Any tree within the ROW along the streets the city Tree Service Department will remove and take out if diseased or damaged in storms.      They took out several stumps in the last two years and a few diseased , dead or dying trees.   They will even plant new trees to replace those they take out sometime.     So maybe that will help someone reading this post.

Tree pool is an interesting idea.  I am not sure people would want to pay for removal of some trees limbs since you can have most picked up if you place it out the right day, and it is self created by owner resident. If someone wants to check more into a tree pool they can.    Either post it here under a new heading or share the info with me and I will share at an upcoming meeting.  Schneider Tree Care was a NNO sponsor one year and they might work out something and be a good place to start with asking.

Anyway you are wrong about I will have the problem next year.   Go back and read the minutes from 11/2012.   As I said this is my farewell year.  I will be a director next year, but I don't intend to be in the front seat.  I would of been in the back seat already if one of the current board members would of stepped up and took on the job either of the last 2 years.   They refused.   It was never my desire to be president this long.  It consumes a huge amount of my personal time and ties me to the neighborhood and away from family events.

As I said in my other post I can't imagine anyone not knowing the curb it rules now.  You are correct it has been hammered in between media, discussion, and general chatter.  Apparently a few people still were not keen on the proper placement of limbs since city curb it left tags not prepared properly last week,  and refused to pick up some yard waste.   So hopefully if they didn't see their tags laying in the street they know this was the reason now.   I saw one over on Seacroft laying in the road and that is how come I know the reason.  They tossed it on the stack of limbs.

I really was curious as to where the person was posting from and it turns out they have posted on the USA discussion post.  The first person was concerned about bad press, but their post and the way they posted put this on a nationwide discussion post. Sort of ironic they were concerned about the bad press, but they then sent it nationwide.    That is why it says USA under their user name.   If you notice my user name says Charlotte.  Before we became a premium site you could choose to post just your neighborhood, nearby neighborhoods, Charlotte, State of NC, and USA.

That is no longer an option if you sign up to be a member of our site.  It post then just on our discussion post.

Thanks for your comments.   At least you communicated without name calling in your post.  Two thumbs up for that from me.

Shoot me an e-mail and tell me more about the tree pool if you wish.  Perhaps your friend can share info.

Sorry this is not an email.  It is just easier to do it here.

Regarding the tree pool.  Someone in their neighborhood in Myers Park...not the entire MP area, arranged with a tree company this pool.  I want to say it was something like $200 for the year.  Its Meyers Park...so we have to keep the price in perspective.  But the tree company took the info of the customer and the money.  Those customers who joined the pool had access to certain things from this company. Tree banding was automatic and maybe something else, I can't remember off the top of my head.  They all got discounts on services.

I'm not sure what you mean by ROW.

As far as tree limbs...I'm not referring to the ones that fall.  The trees are beautiful, but if you take a closer look at them you will see some huge ominous branches that are going to do some serious damage if they come down.  We have a neighbor with a large dead tree.  Its going to fall across the street so it shouldn't do too much damage.  But there is a lot of that around. But in general, tree maintenance is important to the overall quality of the trees we love so much.

I've always thought tht MP tree pool that my friends pay into was a brilliant idea.  And the tree company can't complain either.  That's pretty good publicity and an opportunity to gather a huge client list.

Oh...yes. I can check with my friend about what they do.
