Anyone interested in this topic should make plans to attend this meeting.

I did exchange e-mails with Auto Bell:   Some of our neighbors had concerns that perhaps the South Blvd. location would close.  That is not going to be the case per this response from Mr. Howard.

Mr. Doss:

Thanks for your kind words about our South Blvd. location.  We appreciate the business from you and your neighbors.  That store actually replaced our original and first store built on what is now the Hook Tire store down the street.  We came to the end of our lease on that site and relocated to our present location.  So, we have been in that neighborhood for 42 years this month.

This is my family’s business.  I grew up working in this business from the age of 12.  I am proud to say we have never closed a location; and, certainly do not plan on closing one now.  We are also aware of a new car wash at Tyvola and Old Pineville Rd.  This car wash is exterior only (no attendants clean the interior of the car) with a free self service vacuum.  This type of car wash typically attracts a different customer looking to do some of the work him/herself.

We have a traffic consultant that should be able to address any concerns you and your neighbors may have regarding traffic generation and flow into and out of the site.

I look forward to some dialogue with you and your neighbors.  We will include you and anyone you can forward to my attention about upcoming meetings.  The zoning notices were sent directly from the list given to us by City Staff.  I am uncertain why your HOA was not on the list.  I apologize if the City should have included you in that mailing list.

Please let me know if you or your neighbors have other questions.

Sincerely,

Carl Howard

Don't forget if you are concerned with this business going in this location to attend their meeting.   They appear to be making changes to accomodate the neighbors.  Bottom line is this enough?

Dear Southpark Area neighbors:

Please come to our neighborhood meeting regarding the proposed rezoning of property at Tyvola and Park Roads this Monday, June 6th at 7:15 pm at the Renaissance Charlotte Southpark Hotel located at 5501 Carnegie Boulevard.  We want to share our updated plans for a one of a kind Autobell Car Wash based on a number of nearby residents’ ideas and input.  You should have received a notice of this meeting via mail that includes highlights of a number of improvements and features incorporating this input.  If you did not, I will be happy to forward one to you via e-mail.  We sincerely wish to have a dialogue with you to create a positive redevelopment of the corner.

The property owner has discussed at previous meetings with area neighbors and property owners that the most likely alternative use for the property will be a 39 unit apartment project which can be constructed “by right” without input from neighbors.  The adjacent property uses being a Duke Power Transformer station and the C-MUD sewer treatment plant make residential development challenging.  This has resulted in calls to the property owner from smaller/mid-sized developers considering “value driven” apartments.

We believe that we can create a much better alternative to that type of development; one that will enhance the neighborhood, and in turn, your property values.  Please let us share our work from resident input and continue the dialogue.

Sincerely,

Carl Howard
