Animal Control Donation Programs...How You Can Help

Donation Programs

Donation Programs
As employees of the Charlotte/Mecklenburg Animal Control Bureau, we strive to provide the best care for the animals and to educate the public on the best way to care for their pets. However, our operating budget does not allow us to do as much as we would like. Therefore, we are asking for your help. Donations can be sent to:

Charlotte/Mecklenburg Animal Control
8315 Byrum Dr.
Charlotte, NC 28217

You can send in a general donation to be used at our discretion; or you can read about the programs listed below and earmark your donation for a specific cause.

Thank you for your assistance.

Second Chance Medical Fund
We receive an average of 60 animals a day through our doors. Oftentimes, adoptable animals that are sick or injured must be humanely euthanized due to a lack of funds to provide the medical care for them. This fund is designed to provide additional money specifically for the care of these animals. A tax-deductible donation earmarked for the Medical Fund will make it possible for the veterinary staff to provide:

Li'l Man was a recent recipient of care made possible by the second chance medical fund.
Treatment for Heartworm disease
Further testing or examinations not possible at the shelter
Equipment and supplies to enable more treatments to be done at the shelter
Additional training of vet staff on new procedures
If you would like to support this effort to save lives, please make sure that your check is made out to the Charlotte/Mecklenburg Animal Control Bureau and earmarked for the medical fund.

Spay/Neuter Fund

A donation earmarked for the mobile spay/neuter clinic fund will allow Mecklenburg county residents of lower income levels to obtain free rabies vaccinations and sterilization surgery for their pets.

This fund is designed to allow the mobile spay/neuter clinic to continue operation within neighborhoods where the animal control bureau has a high level of calls for service. If you would like to support the ongoing efforts in Mecklenburg County to address pet overpopulation and decrease euthanasia rates by helping to spay or neuter a pet please send your tax deductible donation to the city of Charlotte earmarked for the mobile spay/neuter clinic fund.

Kuranda Cots
How would you like to sleep on hard concrete? Well, the dogs don't like it either. Even though our kennel floors are heated in the winter, we find that many dogs like to sleep on these soft Kuranda Cots. There are two ways in which you can help us provide these cots to all our canine residents:

Order directly from the Kuranda web site- www.kuranda.com/shop/donate.asp
The shelter's name of CMPD Animal Control Bureau must be selected. The medium cot (35" X 23") is the size of choice and costs $45.50. This discount rate is possible if the cot is shipped directly to the shelter.
Send a donation directly to us and earmark it for the Kuranda Cot fund.

T-shirts with the "Help Save His Skin" message.

Media Campaign

It's part of the plan- raising awareness of the homeless animal population and promoting responsible pet ownership. These powerful, thought-provoking messages are the work of Mr. Jim Mitchem of Smash Communications in collaboration with other local designers and artists.

They read the "Death at the Pound" series of articles in The Charlotte Observer and wanted to help out in some way. These messages are designed to help change the fact that we have one of the highest euthanasia rates in the country for cities the size of Charlotte.

We're convinced these emotionally driven messages will help enlighten, educate and inspire people to do the right thing when it comes to their animals. But we need your help to get these messages to the general public. Your tax deductible donation would enable us to purchase space on billboards, in print ads and in other media outlets that our shelter operating budget simply cannot afford.

We are thankful to the talented folks involved in this effort and are confident that this campaign will help us in our quest to change the fate of the many animals in Mecklenburg County. Please earmark your donation for the Media Campaign.

Spay. Neuter. Adopt. They're the Humane Things to Do.
