DDRO: PARTIES, PARKING AND POLITICS

Oct 18, 2000

A party was thrown, a parking ordinance proposed, and politics
discussed?…and that was all just in the last month of the Downtown Denver
Residents Organization.

Annual Summer Party
DDRO?’s annual summer party was held August 30 at Blue 67. Well over 100
downtown residents came with a party smile on their faces. New members
joined, and lucky ticket holders received generous door prizes. Dean
Gleim and Eveline Yang of Auraria Library invited members to take
advantage of our nearby resource. DDRO thanks Blue 67 for delicious
complimentary appetizers, and Samantha Martel for organizing our popular
get-together.

Valet Parking Ordinance?

A proposed valet parking ordinance for downtown Denver was discussed at
a meeting chaired by Councilwoman Debbie Ortega, August 31 at the City
and County Building. Valet parking operators, businesses and DDRO
residents were represented. Future meetings are planned to arrive at a
final proposal to be submitted to City Council.

Speakers Discuss Development

DDRO?’s bimonthly FORUM, presented Tuesday, September 19, at Wynkoop
Brewery, focused on the continual development of the Central Platte
Valley. The guest speakers, Gerry Glick, CEO of Columbia GroupLtd., a
real estate development firm in Denver and Gene Hohensee, a partner in
Arnold & Porter, a national law firm, are co-chairs of the Central
Platte Valley Development Committee. Details of this forum will be
included in the next LoDown.

SAFE Colorado Attends Meeting

Tom Mauser, director of political affairs for SAFE Colorado, attended
DDRO?’s board meeting Tuesday, September 12, to explain Amendment 22 on
this November?’s ballot.

Mr. Mauser is the father of Daniel Mauser who was killed at the
Columbine massacre. Amendment 22, on this November?’s ballot, is to
close the gun show loophole. For further information, you may contact
him at (303) 563-7233.

Police Program

The Denver Police Department issued an invitation to downtown residents
to attend a free 11-week program, the Citizens?’ Police Academy (one
night a week) to familiarize citizens with the policies and procedures
of the department. For further information, contact Sgt. James Henning,
(303) 370-1506.

Enjoy our glorious fall, and plan ahead for our December holiday party!
