Lower Downtown District, Inc.

INTERVIEW WITH DAN DU BOIS LDDI EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Oct 18, 2000

Why did LDDI take on the Neighborhood Plan?
We wanted to guarantee the preservation of the Historic District?’s
character for generations to come.

What was LDDI?’s role?
Without LDDI it never would have happened. We were the glue ?– the
driving force behind the continuing effort to keep all of the
stakeholders participating and respectfully evaluating everyone else?’s
ideas. It was the single most important thing LDDI has done in the past
ten years.

What is the major issue affecting Lower Downtown over the next 50 years
and what did this plan do to address that?
Growth and development. With over 40% of the District available for
future development, it is imperative that consistent guidelines are set
for future generations.

What is the single most important aspect of this plan?
Because it was systematically authored using input from virtually every
faction of this community, it is a true consensus of all the interested
parties.

What implications does the Plan have for people outside of Lower
Downtown?
It ensures that everyone can experience the history of the birthplace of
Denver and learn from the past to make better decisions for the future.
