Lower Downtown District, Inc.

St. Charles Neighborhood Group Update

Apr 12, 2000

Goals for the Year 2000
By Jerry Arca, SCNG President
Work continues on programs aimed at keeping Lower Downtown a high quality, safe, and enjoyable place to live. Here's a look at the progress on these key projects:
Children's Play Area-The general public got its first look on Jan. 29 at the history-themed Children's Play Area proposed for construction in Commons Park. The park will bring to Denver a world-class, one-of-a-kind facility that will entertain children and grandchildren of LoDo
residents as well as children from all over the Metro area. (See Commons Park article on page 6.)
We are now working to: 1) gain a commitment from Denver's Parks and Recreation Department to handle ongoing maintenance; 2) Determine final cost estimates, which initially ranged from $300,000 to $600,000,
depending on the number of elements to be included in the play area; and 3) begin initial fund raising drives among local residents, local businesses and private and corporate foundations. For more information, contact Dick Roberts, 303-615-5133. Neighborhood Plan- St. Charles set a target date of May 1 to get the plan submitted to the city for initial reviews by the Planning Department. The plan, which has been under development for several years, is being finalized by LDDI, with assistance from St. Charles and
the Downtown Denver Residents Organization. For more information, call Joanne Salzman at 303-296-9359.
Liquor Licenses-Our Good Neighbor Committee continues to monitor new liquor license applications and oversee current license holders who are causing unusual problems for residents. To this point every applicant the committee has met with since last summer has agreed to abide by our
good neighbor liquor license policy, which includes an agreement not to have outdoor music, as well as other commitments related to trash, rowdiness, and valet parking. For more information, contact Jerry Arca, 303-296-2879.
Remember: Weekends Begin on Thursday (that's long for WEEBOT)! Join our weekly social gathering at Dixon's from 5:30 to 7 pm for good socializing and sharing of news from the neighborhood.
