Neighbors, this is a copy of an email I sent today to the chairman of the House Committee on Conservation and Water Resources.  PFOAs are the byproduct of producing teflon cookware and I have seen television investigative reports about PFOAs harming people who work for the manufactures.

I recall a recent news report about a business that is working to move its teflon manufacturing plant to our county.  So am supporting Brandon's bill and requesting that you also take a stand in this matter, here and by email to Rep Mayo (cc Jones).

Dear Representative Mayo:

Rep Brandon Jones wrote:

I have submitted a bill that would place a moratorium on PFOA permits in Mississippi until the Department of Health can say with certainty that PFOA is not bio-cumulative, bio-persistent or a likely carcinogen.  This bill, HB 1226, has been assigned to the House Committee on Conservation and Water Resources.  The chairman of that committee, Representative John Mayo, would like to hear from those of you who believe this is an important issue.  He can be contacted at jmayo@house.ms.gov.

I am concerned about the PFOAs being released into my environment since I believe there is no scientific standard for a safe discharge and information about how it will affect things.  On the other hand, I have seen television reports about people working with PFOAs having significantly higher rates of life threatening illness.  I don't believe certainty is the appropriate standard, but I do believe we first need a full blown environmental impact study and a decision about reasonably safe disposal means and discharge levels, if any.  Therefore, I am writing to support a temporary moratorium.
