Sable Detention Pond

highline1.jpgThe Sable Detention pond is located at the northeast corner of Colfax and Jasper;  was originally scheduled to be completed in 2005. The detention site had several vintage buildings, late 40's motel units, that were abandoned in the early 1990's. The structures were not included on Aurora's historic landmark registry and were not considered for historical preservation.

This construction on this regional detention center was completed in the fall of 2010. Dan Mikesell, Aurora water department, wrote;the Sable Ditch is a regional detention pond that is designed to mitigate flooding risks detaining 35 acre-feet of water;  for example, 18 residential and commercial properties will be removed fromSable_Detention_pond_Cofax___Jasper.jpgthe 100-year floodplain downstream of the detention pond. This detention pond will also improve water quality in the Sable Ditch by incorporating water quality outlets in the design. This project was funded from the storm-water enterprise fund as administered by Aurora water with cost participation from the Urban Drainage Flood Control District (UDFDC). Aurora Water contributed 57% of the projects cost and UDFCD providing 43% of the $2,011.760.25 to complete the Sable Detention Pond.
