City Planning Certified KPCA Zoning Plan Dec. 6, 2004

KPCA Rezoning Underway!

On December 6, 2004 City Planning certified the contextual zoning plan devised by our good friend Paul Graziano with only minor revisions. The revisions amounted to less than 5% of Paul's original plan which was the result of changes that occured within the community since the plan was originated.
The next step in the process of the new zoning becoming law is for it to go through a series of public hearings starting with CB 7. They must respond with their recommendations within 60 days. The proposal will then go to the Queens Borough President who will also have 60 days to make a recommendation. The City Council and the Mayor must then approve the new zoning for it to become law. Both of these executive branches helped to launch these zoning changes so we don't expect any problems in this area. This process normally takes about 9 months but John Young, the Director of City Planning for Queens assured me that he will do everything possible to cut that time in half.
This has been a long time coming and is urgently needed to save the residential character of our community. We must no continue to follow through with this effort and help our neighbors in the Holly and Waldheim Civics get their rezoning certified.
