A New Church and a New Beginning, Kirkwood Presbyterian Church

July 1986, A Demographic Study was ordered by the Swannee Presbytery, now St Augustine Presbytery,
New Church Development Committee.

December 1987, Five acres of land purchased, on what would become the corner of Argyle Forest Blvd. and Shindler Dr. at a cost to Presbytery NCD of
$250,000.00 of which So Jax Presbyterian Church
donated $50,000.00

Spring 1990, The Pulpit Nominating Committee,was elected to select an organizing pastor, with it's first meeting held at Orange Park Presbyterian Church May 7, 1990. Members of this Committee were Rev. Roland Castro, Ellen Lotzs, Karen Patterson, Allen Durant, and two others.

February 1991, After searching through 92 applications the Committee gave the Call to Rev. David Omerod as organizing pastor, was approved at the Presbytery meeting held at Marion Oaks Presbyterian Church in Ocala, Fl.

April 1991, The first Steering Committee met in the home of Allen & Esther Durant with Karen & Mike Patterson and Wayne & Beve Baker, Ellen & Jack Lotzs, also members of the committee. They gave the name of Kirkwood, meening (Church in the Woods) in Irish.

May 1991, A small four room church office was rented in the Shops of Argyle.

June 2,1991, The first Sunday School and Church Service was held at Chimney Lakes Elementary School with Mrs. Mackissick, School Principle.

November 1991, Rev. David Omerod installed as organizing pastor.

March 1992, With one hundred prospective members signed up to become Charter Members, the okay was given to Charter the New Church at the NCD meeting at Montgomery Conference Center.

June 14,1992, The Chartering Ceremony was held at Chimney Lakes Elementary School at 3:00 PM with over 110 adult members present with Rev. Mike Williams from our Presbytary staff and many other Pastors & Member's of the Presbytery for this great event in the begining life of Kirkwood Presbyterian Church USA.
