Ms. Brooks;

I will share the concerns you have raised with the appropriate Park Police patrol units.  As a result of the link of suspected MS 13 members to recent events at the Parkdale High School, the Park Police have received several calls of concern from citizens and patrons involving perceived gang activities taking place in several parks in the area of the school.  Our officers are aware.

Additionally, I conducted a brief call for service (CFS) analysis in reference to the Good Luck Estates Neighborhood Park dating back to 01/01/08.  The Park Police have only 1 citizen initiated call for service identified.  That call was made on 01/11/08 involving juveniles in the park during normal school hours.  That call was confirmed.

In the past, a resident voluntarily assisted the Park Police by securing the entrance gate each night.  I will request that the beat officers verify if the gate is still being secured nightly.  We do not have staffing to commit to taking on this task.

Additionally, if possible, please share the following with the President of the Kingswood Civic Association:

The Park Police strive to provide professional police services in partnership with the community and other divisions of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission in order to provide a safe and secure recreational environment.  We need the assistance and support from both the local citizens who reside near our facilities and park patrons who frequent the 23,000 acres of land owned and operated by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission in order to accomplish this task. Please encourage Kingswood residents to contact the Park Police direct at 301.459.3232 or 301.459.9088 to report suspicious activities and "after hours" use of the park.

Feel free to contact me direct at 301.429.5640 if you need to discuss this matter in more detail or for any other issues occurring within District 3.

Good Morning Lt. Conto,

I received a call from the President of the Kingswood Civic Association requesting help with the park.  He has received a number of calls from residents living near the park.  There apparently is a group of MS-13 gang members who meet at the park at 1:00 in the afternoon and at dusk when the park should be closing.  Is it possible to have someone patrol the park around these times?  Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Wanda
