KIAA and Government Updates

KIAA: New number for the Association – 374-KIAA(374-5422) There are two voicemail boxes.

Crime and Safety: Joe Gibbons SAFE Officer visits will move from monthly to quarterly. Monthly information will continue to be provided.

There has been an increase in auto thefts in Lowry Hill and East Isles. Lock car doors, close windows, don’t leave packages in view. Don’t leave keys in car and engine running. It’s a temptation and also against the law.

R. T. Rybek’s Inaugural Events: Meg Forney
The inaugural ball will be held at the Convention Center January 5, 6-12pm

Invitations will be sent to the neighborhood groups. There will also be an Open House at City Hall January 18 with the Mayor and new City Council. Details to follow.

City Council: Lisa Goodman

There are openings for the following committees:

Lunch with Lisa will be 01/23/01 at La Toscana

The city calendar has been distributed. This is a low cost effort that contains a lot of useful information. Copies will be added to the New Resident’s packet. The city budget process is underway.

Park Board: Joe Gibbons for Vivian Mason

Vivian will be at the Hidden Beach meeting 12/11 at 7pm. There will be an update on the Dog Park in the Hill and Lake Press. The area has been expanded, chips have been placed on the grounds, and containers are available for waste. The Kenilworth area is completed, except for plantings that will be done in the spring. In the spring, work will be done on the retaining wall (where the fence has collapsed)

Minneapolis Pops The Pops provides free open-air concerts at Lake Harriet. Planning for possible concerts in Kenwood and are looking for contributions

MOTION PASSED: Contribute $300 to the Minneapolis Pops Committee

Community Hero Card: Kevin Ryan

This is a card with designed for community and citizen involvement with retail to provide charitable dontributions. It is a private sector, self-funded way to improve the community. It has been endorsed by the US Dept. of Commerce, Hennepin County, and the Southwest Journal. For further information, call Kevin at 612-378-7887. This topic will be discussed further at the next KIAA meeting.

Committee Updates

Hidden Beach:

A Citizens’ Advisory Group is being formed. The group is in the early stages of problem identification. The next step is to inform the Park Board of issues around patrolling and enforcement. Next meeting is Tuesday, December 11, at 7pm at the RecCenter. Support is needed from Kenwood Residents.

Lighting:

East Isles looks great. The problems with the lights seem to have been solved.
