Iroquois Park - What's Happening and In the Pipeline

May 20, 2008

May 20 - The final meeting before the summer break, members turned out to hear Mimi Zinniel, President and CEO of the Olmsted Conservancy summarize on going projects and plans in the scheduled for the park.

Iroquois Park, designed by the nations premier park maker Frederick Law Olmsted, a landscape architect established the themes which are now closely associated with designs replicated by his firm across the United States. He was especially known for his use of hills, trees and curved walkways to give visitors intriguing vistas and a feeling of serene isolation from the city. The early twentieth century found thousands of Louisvillians journeying south on the Grand Boulevard to enjoy a bit of nature.

The Conservancy focuses on nature, the beauty of this lovely wooded area addressing erosion, preservation of forested areas to assure those in the future have this resource for natures enjoyment, while Metro Parks focuses upon activities, infrastructure and everyday maintenance issues.
