Sad News for CCP

Posted in: Country Club Place
Perhaps you have seen the local news reports of the 19-year-old Ben Davis graduate who was killed in action in Iraq last Friday. The soldier was Jesse Halling, and his family resides here in CCP.

On behalf of the neighborhood, the Board would like to express our deepest condolences to the Halling family and their neighbors. I know the Ahlbrands were also especially close to Jesse.

Please keep these families in your thoughts and prayers.

I believe Fifth Third Bank has plans to start a memorial fund to purchase care packages for military personnel.

The Board and Meridian Management have arranged for a floral memorial to be placed near the neighborhood entrance. We have also been discussing plans for a more permanent memorial - a flagpole at the clubhouse. We will provide further details as they develop, but I'm sure there will be an opportunity for residents to contribute to this effort.

Memorial Update

The Board has approved placing a flagpole and a memorial plaque in the center of the grassy ''island'' at the neighborhood entrance drive.

Please note that this tribute will be totally funded by voluntary donations. I am pleased to announce that through the efforts of the Gullion family, a significant amount has already been donated by the local American Legion. The Gullion's daughter has also initiated the creation of a flyer to be distributed to residents explaining how they may contribute to the memorial fund if they so choose.

Basically, if you would like to make a contribution, please send a check to:

Meridian Management Corporation
Attn: Tricia Edwards
P.O. Box 44127
Indianapolis, IN 46244

Please indicate on the check that it is a contribution to the Jesse Halling Fund.

The money raised will be used to purchase a flagpole, flag, and a memorial plaque. Any remaining funds will be placed in reserve to purchase additional flags as needed, and/or forwarded to the Fifth Third Bank fund created in Jesse's memory to purchase care packages for military personnel.

I would like to thank the Gullion family for their efforts in leading this memorial for the neighborhood. I would also like to thank Tricia Edwards and Tom Spencer of Meridian Management; they have showed tremendous generosity and personal interest in our neighborhood, and have been instrumental in the memorial effort.
