Stop sign

Posted in: Farley
I would like to thank the neighborhhod association for the stop sign at 13th and Glenarm. Its obvious this was not well thought through. It is hard enough to stop there to make a turn in the winter let alone stop for a sign. We removed the stop sign from Eleanor and 11th street for this very reason. Why would we lobby for one there. I see it as a way to cause more accidents. Just thought I would put my two cents in. A Farley Resident tired of the association.
Stop Sign at Glen Arm & Farley

Dear Neighbor:

Farley Association DID NOT LOBBY FOR THIS SIGN! It came as a complete surprise to us that the city made the choice to place the sign in order to slow traffic on Glen Arm Road. There are numerous speeders in the morning and evening hours. School buses pick up children at this corner and there is some danger from speeding cars. There have been numerous complaints from residents about sppeding on Glen Arm Road. We felt there were valid reasons for placing the sign and did not oppose the sign.

We are also aware of the winter snow and ice conditions in our neighborhood and would like to provide salt and ice removing chemicals...but our budget will not allow us to do this in conjunction with our snow removal. An additional truck to spread salt or chemicals would double our snow removal expense. We have mentioned this problem to the Department of Public Works and hope to have a conversation with them before winter to discuss the matter. We will let you know what comes about after that meeting.

Sand at icy corners.

With the Stop sign issues in Farley, I would like to make a suggestion. If each of us buys about 4-6 bags of sand and leave them in our trunks of cars it will add weight to your car in winter to prevent sliding and when you come to an icy corner, OPEN a couple of these bags and spread them accross the icy corner. We have 800 plus homes in here and if we all help, then it is not costly to anyone and we will help ourselves and each other. Kitty litter is just as good and very CHEAP. Just buy one a week till winter and it will be a blessing in winter.Thats 3,200 -4,800 bags of kitty litter. it will last all winter. Pat Wood
