NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH PROGRAM

v BE AWARE OF STRANGERS IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD!

?˜ Door-to-door salesmen.
?˜ Children/teenagers loitering in your neighborhood during school hours.
?˜ Strangers going door to door looking for odd jobs or offering “free estimates.”
?˜ Strangers loading furniture, TV’s or appliances into pick-up trucks, vans, or cars.
?˜ People representing themselves as servicemen (telephone or utility employees), city, county, state, or federal employees (tax assessors or police officers).
?˜ Strangers knocking on your door asking for persons you are not familiar with.
?˜ Ask for identification. All solicitors should have a business license. If they do not, call the Sheriff’s Department.

v WATCH FOR SUSPICIOUS CARS IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD!

?˜ Vehicles in the neighborhood that do not belong there.
?˜ Vehicles cruising through your neighborhood.
?˜ Abandoned vehicles.
?˜ Unfamiliar vehicles parked in neighbor’s drive, especially while they are away.

v BE ON ALERT FOR SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY OCCURRING IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD!

?˜ Dogs barking.
?˜ Broken glass or the sound of breaking glass at a neighbor’s, especially while they are away.
?˜ Open doors or windows at a neighbor’s while they are away.
?˜ Lighting irregularities in your neighborhood (unexplained changes in lighting or position of drapes at neighbor’s while they are away).

v DO NOT HESITATE TO REPORT ANY SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD TO THE WALTON COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE OR LOGANVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT!

?˜ Do not take matters into your own hands.
?˜ Call the Sheriff’s Office or Police Department. Provide the radio operator with as much information as you can.
§ Description of suspicious people (include height, weight, age, gender, race, build, hair color, appearance, clothing, distinguishing marks).
§ Direction of travel.
§ Location at the time of the call.
§ Vehicle descriptions (tag number, make, model, color, distinguishing characteristics).

DO NOT ASSUME THAT SOMEONE HAS ALREADY CALLED THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE OR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT. CALL THEM YOURSELF!
