DETROIT COMMUNITY JUSTICE PARTNERSHIP
TO PREPARE PARENTS AS THE FIRST LINE OF DEFENSE IN
VIOLENCE PREVENTION FOR YOUTH
Preparing students for the future is among the most important responsibilities parents and communities face. Ensuring that children attend school, are safe, mentally prepared, confident, and receive a good education are challenging tasks, at best, for many parents. Understanding this significance, the Detroit Community Justice Partnership (a Weed and Seed site) will conduct its 6th Parent University. The fall 2004 session begins on September 29 and ends on November 17, 2004, with classes meeting every Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:30 p.m. at 7800 W. Outer Drive, Detroit.
The Parent University is designed to provide support and encouragement for the parenting journey; increase knowledge and information about crime prevention; reinforce and build upon existing parenting skills, expand resource awareness of services available to youth; and provide a learning environment rich in experience and creativity. strengthen and improve parenting knowledge, skills, and help them to raise resilient children. Full scholarships are provided for Detroit area parents interested in attending the Parent University. Successful graduates of the program will receive certification, become part of a cadre of community parent leaders and will have the opportunity to involve
their youth in a host of activities and events. Those interested in this session should contact Tamela R. Aikens, Executive Director of Detroit Community Justice Partnership at (313) 794-5546 or visit www.dcjp.org.
