Beware of "Quit Claim Deed" home sales

Sep 17, 2003

A Hope Park resident had the misfortune of dealing with a rip off land lord. He had not paid the taxes on the home for many years, and finally the state took the property from him, and is now for sale by the state. Even after the state had taken the property, he continued to collect rent, and finally offered to sell the house to the renter. He took the money and provided them with a Quit Claim Deed. Quite a profit on something that does not belong to you!!! And even worse, when the state sells this property, these folks are out with nothing!!! Always have a title search done and get a ?“Warranty Deed?”. This guarantees that the seller has a clear title on the property.
