Creek Week is here! This year will be packed over 25 opportunities to volunteer, explore, and take action to protect our local creeks and rivers. Events include a Stormwater Run-off 5K, creek cleanups, guided nature hikes, kayaking tour, and beginner-friendly learn-to-fish events. This month Creek Week starts March 21st and ends with our grand finale, The Big Spring Clean, on March 28th. We’re sure to have an event near you, so check out the Creek Week Webpage for more details!

Join us for our first-ever Creek Week Storm Drain Marking Competition, taking place March 21–28, 2026! Groups from across Mecklenburg County will compete to help us reach our goal of marking every storm drain in the County. Teams earn a point for each storm drain marked, with prizes awarded to the top teams in each division (Under 18 and Over 18). Teams can include up to four people, and every member of the winning team will receive an Owala water bottle.

In partnership with Charlotte Landscape Management and their TreeXTree Program, we're challenging you to identify and map as many trees as possible during Creek Week! The group that maps the most trees wins a gift card! We will be kicking off this competition at the Tree ID and Mapping event during Creek Week! During this event, you learn how to identify different native tree species and use the tree mapping tool. You also be given a booklet to take with you to help you identify trees on your own and even have the chance to win a tree to take home! Register for this event. If you’d like to learn more about competing in the Tree Mapping Challenge, email Natasha Warren at Natasha.Warren@charlottenc.gov.
