About our association

na

Holiday Park Property Owners (HPPO) is an association of owners, managers, residents, and other persons who work for the betterment of the neighborhood. Of the ten persons who established HPPO in 1984, five are still active in the organization.

HPPO is maintained by a board of volunteers.

President: Samuel Moyers 948-4170
Past President: Edward Nelsen 991-2367
Board Members: Betty Ames
Ted Campagnolo
Don Havranek

Membership in the association is voluntary. Owners are asked to pay $40 per year. There is no dues for managers, residents, or interested persons. Dues are used to mail meeting announcements, promote neighborhood activities and improvements, provide refreshments at meetings, and maintain a data base of owners, managers, and other members.

General meetings are held in March and October each year, usually in spring or fall. Representatives of the Scottsdale Police Department usually participate in the first part of each meeting. Representatives of the Paiute Center staff also participate. Each meeting has a theme, but opportunity for audience discussion is provided. General meetings are held on the 2nd Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in Building 9 of the Paiute Center, 6635 E. Osborn (West entrance to the parking lot. Building 9 is located on the southwest corner of the Paiute campus). (Phone for information on upcoming meetings)

Board meetings are held on the 2nd Monday of each month, excepting March, July, August, and October. Board meetings begin at 7:30 p.m. and are open to the public. The sessions are working meetings and focus on specific problems or issues. (Phone for information on upcoming meetings).

Some accomplishments of HPPO since its inception:

Established good working relationship with City of Scottsdale Police Department, Code Enforcement, Recreation, Sanitation, and other City administrative departments.
Benefits: reduced crime, graffiti removal, improved appearance of the neighborhood, better neighborhood image.

"Turned around" distressed properties and neighborhood trouble spots by "twisting arms" of owners and managers to improve management, maintenance, tenant selection, and supervision of properties. (Phoned, wrote letters, and personally visited owners of problem properties).

Established and promoted enant screening through:
- education of managers and owners
- information from credit bureau and court records

Established a improvement district to install street lights in alleys throughout the neighborhood. (Supported with
small tax assessment on each property)

Coordinated refuse removal services by trouble shooting
problems and negotiating with City Sanitation Dept. for
removal of uncontained items (furniture, refrigerators).

Improved the image of Holiday Park by presenting positive information about the neighborhood.

Sponsor monthly meetings among active members, often
including the Scottsdale Police, city officials, Paiute
Center Staff, and other Community Organizations.

Studied and amended Deed Restrictions, participated in
discussions of an assemblage in 1987.

Supported the referendum for improvement and extension of
64th St.
