2009 Summer Crime Alert

Burglars make profit in the Highlands areas

2009 summer local crime alert
Word from our San Antonio Fear Free Environment officers of the San Antonio Police Department is that our southeast San Antonio neighborhood is the regional hotspot for thieves making a quick profit by selling us merchandise they have stolen. The SAPD conducted a series of "stings" at flea markets in south and southeast San Antonio. SAFFE officers state that a majority of the items for sale at the flea market on Roosevelt Avenue were found to be stolen goods. A subsequent sting at the same flea market indicated that there were still vendors selling items stolen from our neighbors.

As a result, some of the vendors are now avoiding the flea markets but continuing to sell stolen goods. They can be seen in our Highland Park and surrounding areas set up on the street corners and the sides of the road. There are a few spots near Interstate Highway 37 (such as the intersection of Steves and DeVoto) where unmarked trailers have been seen to pull off to the side of the road and start selling televisions, etc.

HELP STOP BURGLARS WHO ROB OUR HOUSES FROM MAKING A PROFIT! If you see a roadside vendor without a permit, do not hesitate to call the San Antonio Police Department at (210) 207-7273. The police can determine whether the merchandise is potentially stolen. Make burglary unprofitable! The burglary that you prevent may be at your own apartment or house!

Thanks to Highland Park SAFFE officer David Nouhan for keeping us informed. Drop by and see him, Mike Trainor and all the other Highlands area SAFFE officers at the new SAPD SAFFE community office at McCreless Market between the grocery store and dentist office in the northeast part of the center.

Thanks to HP COPS volunteers!

Please remember: The police can't prevent crime alone. Only the neighbors can. Thanks to our Cellular on Patrol volunteers who went on patrol with me this summer: Barbara Banse and Cecilia Guajardo!!!!! Thanks for helping your neighbors! - Rachel Cywinski, Highland Park Cellular on Patrol Coordinator
