Targeted Neighborhood Initiative

Housing Rehabilitation provides up to $20,000 in grants to homeowners of historic and contemporary residences.
Figueroa and Monte Vista Streets the two central commercial corridors in Highland Park need overall streetscape improvements. This includes steam cleaning, street lighting, and sidewalk reconstruction.
Small Businesses can also avail themselves of Micro Business Loans, up to $20,000 each, to use for working capital, technical assistance, operational improvements, etc.
Figueroa Business Center between Avenue 53 and 58 will undergo a Fa?§ade Improvement project. Storefronts are renovated with forgivable grants of up to $25,000 according to an architectural plan for the area.
The Highland Theater built in 1921, will benefit from an improved fa?§ade and neon sign.
The Ramona Parlor Community Center a heavily used facility, will have its entire second story renovated by TNI.
Child Care Facility is planned for the area.
The Highland Park Recreation Center shall receive new recreation equipment.
Community Organization/Community Newspaper both will be administered by the non-profit Highland Park Community Development Corporation. TNI has provided the start-up funds for these two vital projects. The CDC will build community leadership and establish a formal resident group. The funds for the newspaper is in response to the community's wishes. A Highland Park newspaper floundered several years ago and the neighborhood sorely feels it absence.
