City-wide Cleanup Day Helps Kick Spring Cleaning in Gear

May 18, 2005

If you have old refrigerators, couches, water heaters and other bulky items, City-wide Cleanup Day offers you a free and convenient way to dispose of them. The next City-wide Cleanup Day is scheduled for Saturday, April 2.

City crews and trucks will be stationed at more than 20 convenient locations (a list of sites is attached) from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to assist residents who want to get rid of unwanted items including: furniture, mattresses, broken appliances, auto parts, water heaters, tires (limit 6) and brush.

Most of the drop-off sites will be located in the parking lots of area schools and parks. Proof of San Antonio residency, such as a CPS bill that shows payment of the
City?’s Garbage/Brush Fee must be provided to ensure participants are City of San Antonio residents. All loads must be covered with a tarp to avoid a fee.

No commercial or household hazardous waste (HHW) will be accepted at the locations. Residents needing to dispose of HHW such as batteries, pesticides, pool chemicals, motor oil and paint can take them to the City?’s Household Hazardous

Waste Drop-off Center at 7030 Culebra Road from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on April 2. Normal operating hours for the center are Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Fridays from 7:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and the first Saturday of each month from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
