Littleton Community Task force 303-980-6193
Contact Diana Holland to offer a suggestion or join a working committee. School safety is a community Issue that is everyone's job. Please utilize the above numbers when you see or hear anything that will impact our community. The Littleton Community task forces made up of students, families, school district personnel, business and civic leaders, members of religious community and community agencies, and law enforcement in search of solutions. THE MAIN THEME THAT HAS COME OUT OF THEIR ASSESSMENT PROCESS IS THAT YOUNG PEOPLE WANT TO BE CONNECTED WITH A CARING ADULT. THEY NEED SOMEONE WHO WILL LISTEN TO THEM AND GUIDE THEM.
Diana Holland made a presentation to the Lenski PTO this week and outlined in detail the committees work over the past five months. The task force hosted community forums, fielded community suggestions and concerns reviewed literature for school and youth safety recommendations. They sent families end of the year letter giving task force updates and available summer resources., attended state summit on youth violence., identified long term priority areas and established subcommittees., attended School Board workshop on school security measures and supported school district approval of security measures. The task force supported the request for School Resource Officers.
(Littleton High currently does not have a school resource officer in place. Newton middle school has a resource officer because Arapahoe police received a grant. No other middle school in our district has a resource officer.) I would encourage all members of this community to stay informed and find
our what is occurring at their schools regarding safety and prevention of youth violence. I am proud to report that LPS has an explemplary safety record. As a district we have in place many of the recommendations that have come out of the columbine tragedy. What we all need is a heightened
sense of awareness of what is happening around us. We are fortunate to have a neighborhood school that allows us the opportunity to have many after hour programs. We need to follow the guidelines implemented by the district to ensure that we do not lose this privilege. Our schools need to be secure. It is our responsibility that if we see something suspicious or some one we do not recognize that we address our concerns immediately instead of waiting for some one else to do it.
Next item of interest is Lenski receives the blue ribbon school of excellence. The staff and parents at Lenski worked together to submit an application for and received the U.S. department of Education Blue Ribbon School Award. This prestigious award illustrates Lois Lenski Elementary dedication to
individual student achievement. The school's strong leadership high-quality teaching, challenging curriculum and active parental involvement are qualities that were considered when the selection was made.
The next item of interest. School board elections will be Nov 2, 1999. This will be a mail in ballot.
It is important that you send your ballot in. Oct 13 1999 there will be a meeting of the candidates at Euclid middle school at 7 pm. Please read the literature that you will be receiving and make an educated vote. If you would like to assist the Holden Family in campaigning for Diana Holland please call 303-741-2608. We need walkers and telephone tree assistance like in the past election years. Thanks and I hope that you find this information helpful and please call me if you have any questions.
