Thank you for your email and for taking the time to provide the historical materials and outline the community's concerns regarding Madison Central Park. We appreciate the thoughtful and constructive engagement from you and other community members throughout this process.

I wanted to provide a brief update. Last night, the CMS Board of Education approved moving forward with adding Madison Central Park to the existing Master Joint Use Agreement between CMS and Mecklenburg County.

Our next step is to work with Mecklenburg County and legal counsel to draft the amendment that will establish the site-specific provisions for Madison Central Park. While the language is still being developed, the intent is for the amendment to clearly identify the area as a park/green space and provide that the site will not be developed as organized athletic fields.

In addition, we intend to include a provision requiring community engagement prior to any future change in use of the property that would be inconsistent with its designated park and green space purpose. This is intended to provide a framework for community input should a different use ever be considered.

Once finalized and executed, the amendment will become a public record and will be available through the public records process.

We appreciate the requests and recommendations outlined in your email. Because CMS is the property owner, several of the items you raise involve legal and property-related considerations. To facilitate a productive review, please provide the contact information for your independent legal counsel so that CMS legal staff may communicate directly regarding the legal requests and potential mechanisms discussed in your correspondence.

I was copied on the message to Kristina Fine (Save Madison Park) from Tim Ivey Chief Operations Officer of CMS. 

I am glad this is moving forward rapidly.  Especially since Mr. Ivey is leaving CMS in Jan. 2027.   I am impressed it made it on the school board meetings agenda last night 9/22/26 with all the CMS changes with board chair stepping down, and superintendent removal.
