The Importance of Knowing Your Neighbors

Nov 08, 2000

It is a sad state of affairs these days that neighbors do not know each other. This summer I had the unpleasant task of calling my next door neighbor at work to tell her that her house was on fire!
Although we have lived next door to each other for three years we had never talked before that day.
The weird thing was that many neighbors were standing outside watching the fire trucks and fire men and no one knew the owner?’s name or where she worked to call her. By some fluke of fate, I had picked up her company ID card that had been dropped on the sidewalk and from that ID tag was able to track her down to tell her to come home from work. The fire was started by a faulty electrical outlet in the bathroom.
It is important for all of us to look out for each other. Make sure a neighbor knows how to reach you at work and has a key to your house
