EARLY STREET NAMES

Oct 07, 2003

Montclair?’s original platt, in 1885, shows 46 blocks, with 18 building sites per block. The prized corner lots were often sold in 2 to 3 lots to allow a garden for entertaining. Here are some of the early street names: Goodyear (now Monaco St. Parkway), West End (Magnolia), Belleville (Niagara), Newport (Newport), Geneva (Oneida ?– the widest street by 12 feet), Manitou (Pontiac), East End (Poplar), Hyde Park (Quebec), Dieppe (14th Ave.), Montclair (13th Ave.) and Lake (East 12th Ave.).
